All deserving historic monuments/buildings. But out of the finalists, I think the best were: The Acropolis, Greece, Stonehenge, United Kingdom and Pyramids of Giza, Egypt. But all could have been winners. Just give them the title: The New 21 Wonders of the World.

I'd leave the 7 real wonders of the ancient world as-is.  Could easily be persuaded to add the Great Wall, Petra, Machu Pichu, and Chichen Itza to those lists.  (What, no Angkor Wat?)

But if we're not just blowing sunshine up the arse of some PR firm, how about some modern wonders -- things that, in the context of the 20th century, were as far above and beyond our technological abilities as the 7 ancient wonders were to the technology of the ancient Greeks.

Here's four to start with, in approximate chronological order:

Panama Canal, Panama
Hoover Dam, USA
Apollo Landing Site, Luna
Three Gorges Dam, China

If it doesn't have to have be a building, I'll also nominate the Spirit of St. Louis, the SR-71 Blackbird, and Shockley's first transistor. (I'd put the Saturn V in there, but it's already taken care of in the form of the Apollo landing site)

I'll also nominate ... Shockley's first transistor.

Egads, man.  Shockley is abot as non-PC as you can get.  He once advocated paying people whose IQ was below 100 to be sterilized.  :o

You don't have to like the man's politics to appreciate the importance of the semiconductor.

On the opposite end of the political spectrum, there are people who'd refuse to visit the Louvre or St. Peter's Cathedral because some of the Renaissance painters were gay.

There's such a thing as cutting off your nose to spite your face.

One addition:  Whether they find the Higgs boson or not, CERN definitely qualifies as a modern wonder of the world.  If it had to be built in the 20th century, I'll take Fermilab as a candidate, and gnash my teeth at the fact that we never built the superconducting supercollider when we had the chance.
