Subject: Movies of 2007

Written By: batfan2005 on 11/25/07 at 11:32 am

Wow, I can't believe how many good movies came out this year. My top 5 are Transformers, Spiderman 3, 300, American Gangster, and 5th a tie between Blades of Glory and Superbad.

I haven't really seen a lot of those movies, but I did pick these:

300- This movie was just beyond description. Completely badass, and a ton of violence.

Knocked Up- We saw this last night and I nearly pissed myself. It was hilariously accurate in the way that "accidents" happen and how people handle them.

I also picked other: 1408. This movie was freaky and not too scary, but it had it's moments. I liked the way it screwed with your mind.

I chose Harry Potter, Live Free Die Hard, SuperBad, The Simpsons Movie & transformers b/c of the movies that I have seen on the list these are the ones I liked.

Some of the films on the list haven't been released yet so its not a fair list yet....

I have high hopes for I Am Legend.

Next month, a new Canadian film from Oscar-winning film-maker Denys Arcand will come out. It's called L'Âge des Ténèbres and I really can't wait to see it. I've enjoyed his other films so much.

I saw the film at the cinema this evening. It was excellent. It's such an indictment of modern society and government, specifically in Quebec, but it's true for most other places as well. Most Americans will never get a chance to see the film on the big screen, but for those Canadians and for those Americans with an artsy cinema near you, I recommend this film. In English, its title is 'Days of Darkness'. And if you must wait for its DVD release, it's worth it. If you don't understand French, there will surely be subtitles.

If you haven't seen Arcand's previous film, 'Les Invasions Barbares' or in English 'The Barbarian Invasions', I recommend that even more. That you will find in any video stores anywhere. It won an Oscar.

I voted for 'Live Free or Die Hard', which was the only one in that list I saw.  And what a spectacular film it was.  If you love action, then it does not disappoint.  I was on the edge of my seat the whole time 8)

I liked his 2000 movie 'Stardom'.  I only watched it because of the lovely Quebec actress (and Liv Tyler look-a-like) Jessica Paré who was born the same day as me (different years)

Superbad and Knocked Up were hilarious. Judd Apatow and and actors like Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill and the lot will be the next "frat pack" (Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn,Will Ferrel etc). They've made some popular movies in the past but for the rest of the decade atleast they'll be the biggest thing in cinema comedy.

My other votes went for Order of the Phoenix (big HP fan), Transformers (I thought that was excellent) and Die Hard 4 (Willis can still pull it off, but Long was actually the stand out for me).

Yeah I have been a fan of Justin Long's since Galaxy Quest and then on NBC's Ed he's a great actor- he needs more work before people start remembering him as only the Mac guy.  ;D

I first saw him in 'Jeepers Creepers' when he was an unknown at the time.  I never thought he would be the up and coming star that he is today.  If you ask me though, he already is a big star.  Mac ads, co-starring with Bruce Willis .. his isn't a household name yet, but he is definately a household face LOL

Yeah I just hope people didn't see the adds and then see him in LFODH and think that's how he got his start...

For the record- Galaxy Quest is a totally underrated film... Its a very funny take on the stars of an hold sci fi series (think Star Trek or Galactica) and how they become heroes to a race of aliens... Its got all that fandom stuff in it.  Very funny and worth a look...

I didn't like National Treasure. Besides the disgustingly inaccurate historical references, I felt it was sort of a propaganda film to make kids feel patriotic.

I was not sure on the accuracy of the film (not having done American History), but that is exactly as I felt, a learning aid for the younger folk, it is a Disney film. On the whole I did enjoy it.

My favorites this year (that I have seen thus far): In no particular order after #1  ;)

1) Halloween (John Carpenter should be proud; Daeg Faerch and Malcolm McDowell should be nominated for Oscars; way to go, Rob Zobmie!)
2) Transformers
3) Spider-Man 3
4) Simpsons Movie
4)  Mr. Brooks (Kevin Costner, Dane Cook, William Hurt)
5) Fracture (Anthony Hopkins, Ryan Gosling)
6) Ocean's 13
7) TMNT
8) Fantastic 4: Silver Surfer

The last movie I saw in theaters was Halloween back in September, but I would like to see Bee Movie, Beowulf, The Mist, and 30 Days of Night.

I think that Ben Afflecks Gone Baby Gone was very good, but for some reason has been overlooked.  It could end up being one of those movies people see then say "I can't believe I missed this one"  The rest of us will say "I can't believe you haven't seen it"

Pan's Labyrinth wasn't what I expected, but man, it was awesome. It was just an absolutely beautiful movie.

Letters From Iwo Jima depressed the hell out of me, but it was also excellent. I liked it better than Flags Of Our Fathers.

Even though I think Mel Gibson is a bastard, I really liked Apocalypto. I know there was some historical inaccuracies, but some of those shots were badass. The ending was kind of lame though.

I am taking my wife to see Hilary Swank's movie, P.S. I love You which has a 12-21-07 release date, I think. I am
also going to see National Treasure 2. I enjoyed National Treasure even with it's historical inaccuracies, just like I
enjoyed The Da Vinci Code. Hell, History books are filled with historical inaccuracies, if school can't teach correct
history I certainly am not turning to Hollywood to teach me anything about history. I watch movies to be entertained
not taught

Transformers was completely awesome.

I could only pick 5, that sucks.

So I picked Transformers, Bourne Ultimatum, HP and Order of the Phoenix, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and Enchanted.

I picked the last 2 just to be different.  However, from the list, there are alot more I would pick.

Live Free or Die Hard, Superbad, Shooter, Ocean's 13, POTC 3, 300.

However, I didn't think 300 was as good as everyone thought it was.  I would have rather seen a more epic version of that battle on par with Gladiator and Braveheart.  I also didn't care for the persian army being portrayed as monsters, although I know it was based off a comic.  However, the action was quite intense, the scenes visually stunning, and overall it was entertaining.  That is all I really go to movies for anyway.  Thats why I will still watch Spiderman 3, even though it kind of sucked for the most part.  I like National Treasure 2 for the comedic aspect and it was entertaining.  Most of it may not be historically accurate, but since when did most Americans really care about History.  Kids these days think the U.S. fought WWII on the side of the Germans against the Russians.

3:10 to Yuma was a good movie.  Didn't see that one up there.

I did not like Shrek 3 very much.

I think people didn't care for Flags of our Fathers much because it didn't have too much action in it.  But the war scenes were good.  I dont think people like the truth and how America discards heroes when they are done with them.  I would like to see Letters from Iwo Jima.
