Subject: Favorite TV Channel

Written By: Blackjack on 01/06/08 at 6:57 pm

What  is your favorite TV channel both on the regular TV and on cable.  Even though TV sucks right now... there is at least something to watch... you are still paying for your TV.

Regular TV:  Fox and maybe ABC... NBC is OK, but it gets boring.

Cable: Not much too choose... I usually watch a good movie or something.  FX is pretty good, USA is not bad.  I also like the WGN Network, the N, ABC Family, Disney, etc.

Currently, CBS has all the good sitcoms, but for late night, it has to be NBC

I agree with you, but ABC does not have that bad shows either... I don' think these Dancing With The Stars shows get kinda dry too.

No, you're just kind of just overreacting. If you're being funny, then use a smiley face; if you're not being funny, then don't use a smiley face. Usually this helps people not get their feelings hurt when you include "what the F***, you must be boring" in a sentance. Even then, that statement is just not very nice, no matter how you say it.

A music channel here called Alt TV (http://alttv.co.nz/AltTv/)

Blows all other music channels away with their selection of music (not just top 40 stuff), and the fact that they are just music. Nothing else (unlike all the other "music" stations)

Well, admit it: this...

What the F***... you must be boring!!!

...is one helluva pickup line. That's how I knew.

But seriously: of course I can't tell if you get the girls or not from just one remark. Just like you can't tell someone's boring from just one post - or at least, you shouldn't be. Especially if that someone has been around here for years and has made lots of friends. New friends are always welcome, but you're not making any by posting these remarks.

And for the record: I'm not picking on you.

If I'm watching TV, it is usually one of the Discovery Channels, History Channels or home improvement channels.

I tend to enjoy watching things I can learn something from rather than mere entertainment shows, although I do like CSI: Vegas, Criminal Minds, Friday Night Lights, Las Vegas.

The CW is not that bad...never even watch Veronica Mars.  The My Network TV station is basically utter crap... basically it's poor mans FOX.

Dawn Ostroff president of CW said that forming a new network (out of two existing ones WB & UPN) was like rebuilding a train while it was running full steam ahead....

She ran that train right off the track... first of all...

the network only introduced two new shows and the one they had the most promise for Runaway- was canceled after 2 or 3 episodes. This sent the message early on that they didn't support their own shows and weren't willing to take a chance on them.

secondly...
no one ever figured out, definitively, on what channel the new CW network would air.  In some markets the CW aired on the old WB channels in other areas it aired on the old UPN channels...

people didn't know where to find their shows...
other people didn't get the network at all...

in Santa Barbara, Directv carried the WB but not UPN so when the channels merged they went to the UPN channel which I didn't get.
I am an uberfan though...so as much as I love Directv. I paid $25 a month...just so I could continue to watch Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars every week... I watched other shows like Supernatural.. but I was paying for the two shows mentioned.... I was said when Gilmore Girls was cancelled but Veronica Mars deserved better treatment. I was a good show, well written, with devoted fans. To ignore the fans is like slapping them in the face and I refuse to support a network who has no respect for the fans...

I agree with Coqueta83.  I like National Geographic, Discovery, and HomeGarden.  Love Survivorman and the other show with the guy named Bear who survives in the middle of nowhere.
Not a fan of Animal Planet though.

When I had Dish (I don't now since they screwed us over and I have no job and never will again) I would watch Boomerang. That was the best damn station on at the time even though they didn't play much Looney Tunes cartoons.

But maybe with the WGA Strike, things may change....

I am a huge supporter of the CBC. So I have to say that I love CBC and all it's other channels.

But for cable, I gotta say that Showcase and The Movie Network have some great original programming. I love TVtropolis though, for all the good, old shows.

Yeah, but that's nothing. On SuperÉcran (the francophone version of The Movie Network), there is actual hardcore porn on after dark. I was shocked. My buddy has satellite, and he was like 'I don't want to watch SÉ because it's all porn at this hour'. I was thinking the Skinemax sort of softcore stuff. But nope. I couldn't have been more wrong.

I have Freeview and these are my favourite channels on the service:

BBC 1
BBC 2
ITV 1 (currently for 'Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway')
Channel 4 (there have been some decent programmes showing on this channel since the start of this year such as 'Celebrity Big Brother,' 'Boys and Girls Alone,' 'The Simpsons' and 'Jamie Saves Our Bacon.')
Sky3 (mainly for 'the Dog Whisperer' and the odd travel programme)
4Music - a music station from Channel 4 that launched on 15th August 2008. It broadcasts music videos, music documentaries, themed countdown shows, 'The Friday Night Project' and 'The Sunday Night project'
TMF - an entertainment channel that broadcasts music videos, Nick Jr shows (7-9am) and MTV programming such as 'Cribs,' 'Pimp My Ride' and 'Hogan Knows best'
CBBC - a channel aimed at children 6 and above. I sometimes watch it for programmes such as 'Bear Behaving Badly,' 'Beat the Boss,' 'Prank Patrol' and 'Clutter Nutters'
CBeebies - CBBC's sister channel aimed at the under sixes. I occasionally watch it for 'Space Pirates,' 'Charlie and Lola' and 'Pinky Dinky Doo (UK dub)'
CITV - a children's channel from ITV.
BBC News
Sky News

Channels I liked when my parents had Sky Digital or extra Virgin Media channels:

Nick Toons - mostly for SpongeBob SquarePants
Pop - a unisex children's channel. Programmes I watched on there included 'Ruby Gloom,' 'Pop Party,' 'Tupu' and 'Fraggle Rock.'
Pop Girl - Pop's sister channel that is aimed at a female audience. My favourite shows on that channel included 'Mew Mew Power,' 'Lola and Virginia,' '6teen' and 'Pop Party.'
Tiny Pop - Pop's sister channel aimed at younger children. I watched Tiny Pop for 'Care Bears,' 'My Little Pony' and 'The New Adventures of Madeline'
Music channels such as The Box, Smash Hits, MTV Hits, Magic and Q.
Challenge - a game show channel that broadcasts archived episodes of 'Catchphrase' (presented by Roy Walker) and 'Family Fortunes' (hosted by Les Dennis).
Sky1 - my favourite programme on that channel has got to be 'The Simpsons'
