1924, Born on this day, Jim Reeves, US country singer. The first country singer to crossover into the pop market. (1960 US No.2 single 'He'll Have To Go', 1966 UK No.1 single 'Distant Drums'). Reeves was killed in a plane crash on 31st July 1964 when the single engine aircraft flying from Arkansas to Nashville crashed in thick fog.

1931, Born on this day, Paul Robi, The Platters, (UK & US No.1 single 'Smoke Gets In Your Eyes'). Died of cancer on 1st February 1989.

1934, Born on this day 'Sneaky' Pete Kleinow, US country-rock steel guitar player. Died 6th Jan 2007 aged 72. He was one of the original members of the Flying Burrito Brothers with the Byrds' Chris Hillman and Gram Parsons. Also worked with John Lennon and Joni Mitchell.

1935, Born on this day, Johnny O’Keefe, singer known as “Australia’s King of rock ‘n’ roll”. He co-wrote and had the 1958 Australian hit with, ‘Real Wild Child’, which was covered by Iggy Pop in 1986. Other hits included 'Shout!', 'Don't You Know Pretty Baby' and 'She's My Baby.' O’Keefe died on October 6th 1978.

1939, Born on this day, Phil Everly, singer, songwriter, The Everly Brothers, (1958 UK & US No.1 single 'All I Have To Do Is Dream' plus over 25 other Top 40 hits).

1942, Born on this day, Michael Crawford, UK actor, singer, (1987 UK No.7 single 'The Music Of The Night').

1943, Born on this day, Janis Joplin, US singer who had a 1971 US No.1 single with ‘Me And Bobby McGee’ and a 1971 US No.1 album with Pearl. She died on October 4th 1970 after an accidental heroin overdose.

1949, Born on this day, Tom Waits, US singer, songwriter, actor, (1980 album 'Heart Attack And Vine', as used in a Levi's TV ad. Wrote 'Ol' 55', 1974 US No.17 single for The Eagles). Bruce Springsteen, Rod Stewart, Paul Young have all covers his songs.

1958, Born on this day, Tim Butler, Psychedelic Furs, (1986 UK No.18 single 'Pretty In Pink').

1963, Born on this day, Barbara Weathers, Atlantic Starr, (1987 US No.1 & UK No.3 single 'Always').

1967, Otis Redding went into the studio to record '(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay'. The song went on to be his biggest hit. Redding didn't see its release; he was killed three days later in a plane crash.  :\'(

1974, Carl Douglas started a two week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Kung Fu Fighting'. The song was recorded in 10 minutes, started out as a B- side and sold 10 million.  8)

1987, Born on this day, Aaron Carter, singer, (1998 UK No. 7 single 'Crazy Little Party Girl').  8-P

2003, Outkast went to No.1 on the US singles chart with 'Hey Ya.'  this is my incoming text tone

1897, Born on this day, Jimmie Rodgers singer, songwriter, the first country music star. Sold over 12 million records and was the first person to be elected into the Country Music Hall Of Fame. (1957 US No.1 single 'Honeycomb' plus over 10 other US Top 40 hits). Rodgers died on 26th May 1933.

1925, Born on this day, Peter Sellers actor, The Goons, (1956 UK No.9 single 'Ying Tong Song' with The Goons, 1960 UK No.4 single 'Goodness Gracious Me', with Sophia Loren, 1965 UK No.14 single 'A Hard Day's Night'). Sellers died of a heart attack on 24th July 1980.

1932, Born on this day, Patsy Cline, country singer, the first female country singer to cross over as a pop artist. (1961 US No.19 single 'Crazy'). Cline was killed in a plane crash on 5th March 1963.

1942, Born on this day, Brian Cole, bass, vocals, The Association, (1967 US No.1 single 'Windy'). Cole died on 2nd August 1972.

1942, Born on this day, Sal Spampinato, The Beau Brummels, (1965 US No.8 single, 'Just A Little.')

The only really "notable" pop star to share my birthday  (January 20) is Paul Stanley of KISS, but the Beatles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on that day in 1988.  I suppose that's pretty cool.
