Subject: The New Songs / New Artists Thread

Written By: whistledog on 08/18/08 at 6:01 pm

New artists or new songs that are up and coming or already in the charts.  Rave about them, tell us about them.  Have I got a real good one for you ...

Kreesha Turner, a 22 year old R&B singer from Alberta.  She had a modest hit last year in Canada with a song called Bounce With Me and this year broke the Canadian Top 10 with Don't Call Me Baby.  Her debut album 'Passion' is in stores now.  Man, is she a looker or what?

She's absolutely gorgeous, but I don't care for her singing at all.  Sorry, Jason.

The song is catchy, but it's not for me. I know she's pretty, but it takes more than looks for a person to have "star quality". She looks like a really nice person though, like someone I'd hang out with!

Not a new artist, but a new song and a damn good one.  The video is amazing as well.

Talking to ourselves, are we? I'm sure we've all felt like that (ie being ignored/overlooked). ;)

So I had a listen...and I find it fascinating (although 6'11" might be a bit lenghty for a single...). I especially like the uptempo part.
Great song, great singer, but I don't see it making the charts over here.

Okay, here's one especially for Jason and Kevin. A bit of bot worlds, though I've a feeling Kevin probably won't like it.

Armin van Buuren feat. Sharon den Adel - In And Out Of Love

...and one more for Jason:

Johan Gielen vs. Time Bandits - Live It Up 2008

Though it says "Time Bandits", it's really just Alides Hidding appearing in the video.

I enjoy Armin Van Burren's music so much, I bought his new album 'Imagine' that has that song on it.  He is currently the #1 DJ in the world

Hadn't heard that Live it Up 2008 version before, but I really like it :)

Not entirely new to all, but nevertheless...
These two songs get quite a lot of airplay over here at the moment.

This one's brand spanking new: EliZe - Hot Stuff

Both Sharon and Van Burren are from the Netherlands, so a collaboration was bound to happen LOL  Not the first time Techno and Rock Music joined forces

He could use her again depending on the success of the song (which was stellar in the clubs)

The song is currently stationary at #10 in Dutch Top 40 (and FYI: the entire Top 10 is stationary - I've never seen that happen before).

I rank them up there with ELP and if Sharon was to leave for the dance-techno crap, for me it would be a total
disaster, it would be like Greg Lake fronting KC & The Sunshine Band.  :P

What a beautiful song. Sharon Den Adel has quickly become my favorite vocalist, she is so versatile. I haven't heard
a voice like hers since Annie Haslem, I still like Amy Lee very much but Sharon just does it for me.

2008 seems to be the year of remixes/remakes. Currently, these two songs are in our charts:

Guru Josh Project - Infinity 2008 | original:  Guru Josh - Infinity (1990's...Time For The Guru) (1990)

Robin S - Show Me Love 2008 | original: Robin S - Show Me Love (1993)

...and now there's also this new one that has just entered our bubbling under section:

Jean Claude Ades - I Begin To Wonder 2008 | original: JCA - I Begin To Wonder (2002)
earlier cover: Dannii Minogue - I Begin To Wonder (2003)

You may remember the successfull 2003 version by Dannii Minogue, but to be fair to Jean Claude Ades: he released an earlier version of that song in 2002 (under his alias JCA).

To be quite honest: I hadn't given it much thought. And I never realized "JCA" stands for Jean Claude Ades either.

The funny thing is, though, that the JCA version was the bigger hit over here (peaking at #9, whereas Dannii only reached #39  :o)

Lasgo isn't Lasgo anymore... :\'( Evi "Evy" Goffin left the group in May 2008, and soon after David Vervoort (aka Dave McCullen) also called it quits.
New singer is 18-year old Jelle Van Dael, and Vervoort was replaced by JIM. So of the original 2001 lineup, only Peter Luts remained.

For the first time in a long time, I find myself enjoying a mainstream R&B singer ...

Danny Fernandes is a 22 year old R&B singer from Canada.  His debut album titled 'Intro' was released this year (2008) and has already sailed 3 singles into the Canadian Chart

Curious
Private Dancer
Fantasy

Here's some songs that you might or might not know, currently in our charts:

You Don't Know - Milow (#9, moving up)
Breathe Gentle - Tiziano Ferro feat. Kelly Rowland (#14, moving up)
Hold On - Alain Clark (#15, moving up)
Gone - Lasgo (#21, moving up)
Ayo Technology - Milow (#25, going down)
Aye - Dio feat. Sef (#29, moving up)
She Doesn't Know - Valerius (#30, moving up)
Play That Beat - DJ Jean (#36, going down)
Lost - Peter Gelderblom (#37, new entry)

As for the Dio feat Sef song: yes, I know it's Dutch (so you probably won't understand a word), but you just gotta see that video.

The Outsiders track was big in NL.  That's where I first saw it when you posted a Dutch Top 40 a while back.  Amanda Wilson was discovered by Freemasons and she sang on their awesome hits 'Love on My Mind' and 'Watchin', so naturally I was intrigued.
