Subject: Peter Fonda doing infomerical

Written By: greenjello74 on 10/19/08 at 11:55 am

Why is he hawking Time Life music collections? Even if he whipped through his own money, his father musta left him well of.
What gives? One of the things I just heard him say was "I remember who i was with, what i was doing and where I was when I first heard these songs"... Yeah right Peter ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

He loves the music of that era, so for him to get paid to talk about it?  Why not!

Just like Barry Williams and the "70s Music Explosion" or Kenny Rogers with the "Superstars of Country"

I guess my point was why do these guys bother? I know they all liked the music they hawk, but it all seems cheesy to me.

I've seen that infomercial before. I've also seen Air Supply advertising a Soft Rock collection and Kevin Cronin (REO Speedwagon) for Rock Ballads.

The problem is a culture that says you shouldn't feel good about getting old in the first place.  Through most of human history, if you outlived childhood illnesses, wars, and occupational accidents, you were a righteous individual full of wisdom the rest of the tribe looked to with respect and nobody dared treat you with anything but....

Nowadays it's "Yeah, yeah gramps, eat your damn oatmeal and take your damn medicine, it's almost naptime!"

It does seem a bit cheesy, but no different than Tiger Woods on a box of Wheaties, or Michael Jordan in ads for Hanes.  A big name helps sell an item

In reality though, some of them probably do it because they need the work ;D

Its not the getting old part that bothers me, Its the "sell out" aspect of people like Peter Fonda who was so anti establishment, back in the day. They stood for something other than making a buck.

I know younger people well at least some, act like older people should just be like we were to;d as kids "seen and not heard".
Do they think that everything is new? Most older people heave :"been there done that". They didn't invent war, love, drugs ect... neither did we.

Well no not really.  I think the anti establishment mentality happens to any person with a mind and a conscience.  As Peter Tork of the Monkees said "you've gotta pay the rent somehow."  I think they also see it as perhaps keeping it still alive.

It's always kind of disturbed me to see young wannabe Hippies with all their electronic equipment to pamper themselves.  My Aunt was a flower child and she kind of regrets having to be in main steam society.  She's an R.N. working at a college campus.
