Subject: News networks stealing Wikipedia material?

Written By: lpg_unit on 11/15/08 at 5:27 pm

Is it me, or are some of the networks in the Philippines (ABS-CBN, NBN4, NET25 to name a few) just steal the maps and some other images off Wikipedia without credit? Like for example an airplane crash somewhere in Luzon. The breaking news will then show up during the commercial break, talking about the latter incident, and a map will appear. Turns out that the map was taken from WP without a "courtesy of Wikipedia" disclaimer or two. Sure, WP is an open community, meaning you're free to edit stuff, but that doesn't mean that it's OK to just use it without proper credit.

They do enforce their copyright policy on noobs who upload straight rips of popular ABS-CBN shows on Youtube, filing a DMCA and having them taken down, but it turns out that the same folks who enforce copyright over their own programmes are also the ones violating it.
