Subject: Where The Wild Things Are . . . the movie.

Written By: Reynolds1863 on 05/31/09 at 6:18 pm

One of the greatest pieces of children's literature has just been turned into an hour and a half movie.  Is anyone looking forward to this movie?  I saw the preview and it turned my stomach.  8-P

I think Maurice Sedak's books are art in and of themselves.  Trying to put it up on the big screen makes me cringe.

It all just doesn't look right.  Plus how do you make a short book into a motion picture without losing it's charm?

Neh, she's bigger than me.  I could get my butt kicked for disagreeing with her.

I remember the book, didn't know it was a movie.

Remember when they tried to make Judy Blume's Tales Of A Fourth Grade Nothing into a TV series?

Your friend was the only good part about it.  I should watch it again, it's been over a decade.

Just pray they don't do "In the Night Kitchen"!
;)

WTWTA has been made into a couple of animated features and a couple of ballets, the last of which was by composer Randall Woolf in 1997.  I never saw the ballet itself, but I was psyched for the CD because it had all the hip downtown musicians Woolf likes to work with (Kitty Brazelton, Kathleen Supove, Danny Tunick, Patti Monson, Todd Reynolds, Frank London, etc.), but it was a total dog, really hokey electro-jazz-rock BS.

I totally agree. It's really hard to replicate the magic of what Maurice Sendak does with his brief text and lush illustrations and maybe some children's books should be left as they are.
