Subject: 2010 Predictions

Written By: MrCleveland on 12/24/09 at 10:01 am

As we see 2009 and the 00's come to a close here's what may happen in 2010....

The Republicans will get back into power. Be afraid...

We find Osama bin Laden...dead!

Deaths of Billy Gahrahm, Mickey Rooney, and Jimmy Carter.

Dick Cheney will be in the news again...ranting about Obama.

Cleveland will not...I repeat...will not win a Championship!

Facebook will fade away and Twitter becomes powerful.

The economy picks-up.

Are there any you want to add or have any for the 10's?

- The 2010 Winter Olympics will see Holland win 5 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals. This includes one gold for Marianne Timmer in her final appearance, and a surprise bronze for the four men bob.

- Brazil will win the 2010 World Cup (Soccer / football) in South Africa. Holland will disappoint and not even make it through the group stage.

- Johan 'Jopie' Heesters wil (finally) die. FYI: he turned 106 on December 5, so it shouldn't come as a surprise.

MTA:

This thread is about predictions of just the year 2010, and not the entire 2010's right? Here are my predictions for this upcoming and close approaching year:

- The Superbowl will be Chargers vs. Saints
- Nancy Pelosi will be defeated as SOTH and Republicans will take control of Congress
- The economy will be better
- Sony's 3D TV's will be released, at least in Japan
- Musically and culturally, not much different from late 2009
- Top grossing movie either Iron Man 2 or Toy Story 3

My guess is that while the 00s were really glossy and filled with reality tv shows, the 10s will pretty much be the polar opposite, more people getting outdoors, less emphasis on the lives of those famous for nothing IE the Kardashians, and a continuing trend of people wearing boots, leather jackets, and things that last for long periods of time.

I'm not going to start off with the Mets winning the World Series like I always do. Maybe NOT saying they will win-maybe they will.  ;)

-"Imadinnerjacket" from Iran will be overthrown.
-The Dems will win more seats in both the House & the Senate.
-Sarah Palin will continue to put her foot in her mouth.
-Dick Cheney will be under investigation.
-Rupert Murdock will die.

That's a start.

MTA:

What does MTA mean?  ???

Predictions for the year 2010:

The economy will improve.

TVs will be made in the 2.35:1 / 2.39:1 / 2.40:1 aspect ratio.

Republicans will be laughed out of the country.

Blu-ray will become the home video standard.

Nickelodeon will finally re-launch its Nick Rewind banner and bring back such classics as The Adventures of Pete & Pete (Season 3), Clarissa Explains It All (Seasons 2-5), All That (Seasons 1-6 and 10th Anniversary Reunion Special, at least), Kenan & Kel (Complete series), YCDTOTV, Salute Your Shorts, Welcome Freshman, Are You Afraid of the Dark? (official US release w/special features), Weinerville, Cousin Skeeter, Rocko, Doug Rugrats, Double Dare, etc., etc. ... If DVDs (or Blu-rays) are not feasable, then they can at least give us a block on Nickelodeon (again) or something special, or launch a brand new Nick Rewind channel as was once rumored.

CD sales will boom again, and the format will coexist with the recently-revived vinyl format, which will again go mainstream. More and more mainstream and commercial artists (those of the Britney Spears, Green Day, AC/DC, Bruce Springsteen, Lady Gaga, Lily Allen, U2, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Paramore, Ozzy, Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Miley Cyrus, type) will release their albums simultaneously on CD and vinyl, which some artists are already doing. (Cheap Trick also released their most recent album on eight-track as well. LMAO! Oh, Rick Nielsen, you joker.)

Sebastian will give Daeg Faerch a breakout role, if he didn't already get such a role from Halloween, Hancock, or TV's Pushing Daisies.

Pushing Daisies mania will kick into overdrive. The comics (from DC) will sell huge. Warner will demand a movie, which will be an emormous hit.

The nearly-homeless Weinsteins will announce that Daeg has been re-hired as (young, teen, or adult) Michael Myers in Halloween 3D. Serves them right for replacing him in the first place and giving the film a reason to flop.

Universal will go Blu.

Other possible Blu-ray titles: Harriet the Spy, Good Burger, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, BTTF trilogy, Star Wars (original trilogy, original 1977-1983 unedited versions prior to 1997), Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (Seasons 1-3 remastered), Pulp Fiction, Jaws series, The Godfather saga, Night of the Living Dead, Alien series, Psycho, Ernest saga, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, Plan 9 from Outer Space.

Uwe Boll will finally make a good movie?

Rock will once again be the dominant music for the first time since grunge. I'm talking "regular" rock before such labels as "indie," "emo," "post-punk," "screamo," "post-grunge," or "post-rock" were invented. Music will not sound generic; every band will have its own identity, and NOT be just another Nickelback or Hinder (Not that I don't like Nickelback, etc.). The age of the guitar hero will make a big comneback, and not just with the video game franchise. Somebody will become the next Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, Pete Townshend, Carlos Santana, Joe Walsh, Clapton, Randy Rhoads, Zakk Wylde, etc.

My Name Is Earl will return from the dead?

Pushing Daisies season 3?

After a surprising set of events, George W. Bush wins American Idol 2010

Subject: Re: 2010 Predictions

Written By: Mike from Jersey on 12/29/09 at 11:10 pm

This is not so much a 2010 year-specific prediction, moreso about the future years in general. Some of these may sound crazy to some, but I don't think the scenarios are extremely hard to believe.

-Obama WILL be re-elected in 2012, by a fairly narrow margin. However, he will go down as an average president.
-American Idol will continue through the 2010s, though with lower ratings and less popularity.
-The Office will end some time around 2013-2015.
-The Yankees will fail to reclaim the championship in 2010, though possibly in the few years following.
-Alexander Ovechkin will be universally considered the best player in the NHL, ending any debate over him, Crosby, or Malkin.
-Lebron James will go to the Lakers, where he will win a championship in 2012.
-The 00s movie trends of trilogies, sequals, remakes, superhero films, and Judd Apatow-esque comedies will give way to new styles. Also, ticket prices will fall.
-Artists such as the Black Eyed Peas, Kelly Clarkson, Kanye West, Britney Spears, Beyonce, and Justin Timberlake will remain popular until around 2015.
-Artists such as Rihanna, Lil Wayne, T-Pain, Taylor Swift, Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, The Fray, and Shakira will remain popular until around 2012 or 2013.
-The current popular hairstyles (specifically those flat, curvey, Emo-ish, Rihanna-esque, faded bang type of look for women) will remain popular until the mid-2010s.

Now here's the big stuff:

-The economy will improve steadily in the early 10s, yet will not reach pre-2007 levels.
-Iraq's exit dates will be predictably delayed for whatever reasons, perhaps another 3 months.
-US troops will all be withdrawn from the Middle East by the end of 2011. The surge in Afghanistan will be relatively effective yet the quagmire situation will more or less remain. The future of the War on Terror will be fought by the CIA, etc. This will mark somewhat of an end of an era.
-China will continue to grow immensely. Iran will continue to suppress and grow as well. Iran will become extremely greedy and hungry for more power and build more nukes and invade weak neighboring countries. However, Israel will not be wiped off the face of the Earth.
-Climate regulation bills will continue to be ignored, and those who care will become extremely concerned by the late 2010s, some will become forcefull.
-By the decade's end, almost all US states will recognize civil unions or gay marriage. Soon, the debate will become front headlines, and reach 1950s levels that the previous Civil Rights Movement did.
-Also by the decade's end, the issue of marijuana legalization will become a front-page debate, much bigger than now.
-The need for oil will continue to increase and the supply will drastically decrease. Countries will get violent.

Basically, by the 2020s all hell is going to break lose. A huge war will be fought between China, Iran, the US, maybe Russia. Causes will include oil, nuclear weapons, and ferocious expansion (on China and Iran's part). However, the War on Terror will become relatively obsolete.

Quite cheerful  :). Just my guesses, I suppose...

Wall Street bank bailouts turn out to be the biggest fleece in human history and now the banks are broke again and tell us we'll go into a world depression a zillion times worse than 1933 if they don't get a bajillion thrillion dollars in the five minutes.  Obama gives it to them with complimentary Hawaiian fruit baskets and the bankers clog up every toilet in Manhattan flushing the stuff down the terlets while tossing pineapples at passersby from the 24th floor.

Furthermore, Joe Lieberman and Ben Nelson work out a deal with the insurance companies whereby they can't kick in your front door and shoot you dead if you send them your entire paycheck plus interest every month and your 14-year-old daughter's cherry.

I think that later in the 2010's we will have to face peak oil, this might have quite a dramatic impact in a very short time. We will all have to change our life styles with the end of cheap oil, and to tell the truth most people are unprepared for the times to come. Our economy could suffer very hard because it relies on growth and with oil demand increasing and production declining there could be more recessions to come.

This is possible but it has been said every decade since the 1960s.  This is definitely a case of "the boy who cried wolf."  Nonetheless, we need to get ourselves in gear and come up with some kind of alternative, but it green energy or simple natural gas, to give us a bridge when peak oil does arrive.
