Really depends on what you like most. Marketers on each decade try to appeal to whatever demographic was the hottest at the time. I notice in the 00s, the teen demographic was targeted a lot, as opposed to the 90s when it was targeted to young kids and 18-24 people.

Why focus on attaching yourselves to a specific decade? So you don't really "belong" to a certain decade...so what? Most people don't. A decade is ten years and, of course, people's youth runs longer than that, assuming we go from childhood memories to college graduation or so. Also take into account that a large portion of people are born, similar to you, towards the end of one decade or the start of another. You will, by definition, not wholly fit within a single decade.
I was born in 1989 as well. What is my "era"? It's the second half of the 90s (though thanks to reruns and such I got a lot of exposure to the first half), the 00s, and most likely the first half of the 2010s. I find this notion of "claiming" a single decade to be your own to be moronic. You claim what you want to claim.
