Subject: Did "b*tch" lose its status as a cuss word in the '00s?

Written By: youngerderek on 04/20/11 at 6:57 pm

i started hearing it on network TV, and not being censored, at some point in the mid or late 00s. which is kinda odd because it's really just a tad less bad than the c-word.

There are two types of curse words: those that aren't really a big deal but are nonetheless considered to be curse words (such as "ass" and "damn") and those that are considered more extreme (like "f*ck," "sh*t," and "c*nt"). I think that the curse words that are synonymous with genitalia, sexual intercourse, and bodily functions are the words that are considered more taboo.

Yeah, I think it's definitely become more mainstream, maybe only in the media though.

I guess it's because bitch actually means a female dog that they allow it. Like ass is another word for a donkey.  Damn mean to condem to hell.

I do notice that they will not allow you to combine some words on TV, they won't allow the word hole to be added at the end of one of those words and they won't let you use God in front of another.  (does that make sense?  :) )  I was watching a movie and the word was A-hole...they let the Ass word pass and bleeped the hole part.  ;D

You should watch BBC America sometimes, they allow much more.

Bitch was never really a cuss word.  Anyone who watched The Golden Girls in the 80s grew up thinking that word was commonly used

Bitch is usually used to mention about a female Dog or Wolf.

Now, the word "bitch" has many meanings, like The Miami Heat is Boston Celtics Bitch!

The "bitch" word has been used for years on alot of shows without being beeped out.Someone mentioned the Golden Girls using it.I have seen alot of shows from the 80's and 90's and bitch was commonly used by characters(especially women to insult other women on the shows).I have never thought of bitch as being that bad of a word anyway.

Very astutely expressed in the South Park episode, "When the Sh*t Hits the Fan" or something like that.

I know, but it rarely gets used as that meaning.I never hear people refer to their female dog as a bitch.

I wouldn't say that's the case in the UK.
