Subject: When did the spikey hair trend start?

I remember in late 1998 people start cutting their curtains hairstyles and short hair into "pseudo' spikey hair cuts and.or buzzes w small spikes only the frontal top?
Does this date back further than late 1998? Where does it come from? Who started it?
I'm aware of the casual 1970's punk spikey/messy hair but how this version come to be?

It was mainly 1999-2000, but lasted till about 2002.

I still wear my hair like this today. Many young professionals are wearing it...because Bieber hair isn't professional looking.

The hairstyle went along with the nu metal and mall punk trends of the late '90s/early '00s.

I remember spiking my hair up at age eleven (c. 2002-2003). I think it was still in style even then. I have pictures that I'll have to pull up someplace if anybody would be interested in seeing. ;D

i'd say late 90s early 00s like 99-01? I even rememver little boys in my elementary school would wear their hair like that.
