Subject: 2000s in United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand

Written By: Jenny1982 on 09/30/12 at 4:23 am

I remember a post one time about what the decades have been like in other countries. So I decided to create a thread about the 2000s in the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

Here's a few things:

The Waiting Game, a British game show that aired in the early 2000s. A player would buzz on a question in which their partner would have to answer. A correct or incorrect answer would either give them or their opponents an amount of points, depending on how long they waited before buzzing in.

The Colour Of Money, a short-lived, but in my opinion very underappreciated British game show from 2009 hosted by Chris Tarrant of the world's first-ever version of 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?'. Contestants picked different coloured cash machines with pre-determined values and needed to stop the machines while they counted money, 1000 pounds at a time, before they ran out of money. The goal was to reach the target amount of money in ten cash machine selections.

Going Straight, a 2003 New Zealand Fear Factor-like show that required contestants to complete three straight-line challenges to win the cash prize. Hosted by internationally-famous actor Manu Bennett. In the United States he is perhaps best known as for his roles in a show called Spartacus.

Ghost Hunt a mid-2000s paranormal-themed show investigating reputedly haunted locations in New Zealand. The show was big and a book was published after the series.

Haunted Homes a British mid/late 2000s paranormal-themed show where famous psychic Mia Dolan attempts to remove spirits from houses.

Cadbury Dream a chocolate bar originally released in Australia and New Zealand in the early 2000s, in addition to the United Kingdom where it was promoted during Coronation Street timeslots.

Also the Australian band Jet which had hits such as "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" and "Look What You've Done". And of course...don't forget New Zealand filmmaker Peter Jackson's works, particularly The Lord of The Rings.

In the UK teen pop never died out, and the Chav stereotype came into being.
