I hated a lot of the music culture and didn't like any of the movies. People also became very clique-orientated where I live. There was a very "if you're not part of my circle of friends I might disrespect you and I don't care what you think about that" attitude.

I was at college and you were either part of the "cool people" or you weren't important, and you'd be tormented if you attempted to stand up for yourself against one of the "cool people". Which is odd because before then, the community was basically always nice and friendly. It was like an overnight change.

Personally It was a BIG year of transition....
Graduated from Community College in May with an AA in Fine Arts Creative Writing
Started my comedy career by venturing into stand-up
Went on a huge trip to NYC with co-workers and explored the city

Pop Culture wise
Really liked the Hangover, Watchmen, Conan O'Brien as Tonight Show Host, Jimmy Fallon taking over Late Night,
Music was full of classic rock, metal, rap, Michael Jackson, etc...

It was awesome.to say the least

Lady Gaga was probably my favorite music artist of 2009...otherwise, '09 was a lackluster year for music, in my opinion.

Let's see...I turned 18 that year, and began my senior year of high school.

Obama had barely begun his first term of presidency and people already began losing their s**t.  :P

I remember Swine Flu. The Drama Club was supposed to take a trip to Scarborough Faire that spring, but it got cancelled because of that damn flu.  >:(

I remember hearing about those townhall debates on tv...and of course healthcare reform was a big news topic that year.

I didn't like 2009 very much either. Mainstream music was at it's worst that year imo (and 2010 as well) But I must admit a lot has happened that year.

There were so many things in 2009 pop culture wise, but then again if  2009 ( a year where alot of ppl lost jobs) ( post economy)  I can see how it can put a damper on the year.

Yuck.

2009 is definitely not my favorite year from the 2000's. I would actually say I hate it the most.

In my personal life, so much negativity happened, I fell into a deep depression which I am still reaping the effects of four years later.

Pop culture wise it doesn't stand out to me either.

Similar to me. 2009 was probably the worst year of my life personally.

Pop culture wise though, it was very similar to today.  My local Top 40 station still plays music from 2009 like its new, but you don't hear much from 2008 or before.  Lady Gaga pretty much defined 2009 pop culture.  People were comparing her to the Beatles. I'm also sure Lady Gaga was partially responsible for bringing gay issues to the forefront of politics and culture.  Prior to 2008, they weren't as big of a deal as they are now it doesn't seem.  Gaga seems to have faded but her legacy lives on.

One of the things that irks me about today's pop culture is how similar it is to 2009.  Some very traumatic things happened to me in 2009 and I am looking forward to the day where that culture is dead and gone.

It isn't really.  The economic crisis is still going on despite what the media wants us to think.  2009 was the year the hipster culture got huge.  It was also the year gay-centric pop culture became the norm (nothing against gays, but right now their culture is defining pop culture like black culture did in the late '90s).  Ke$ha and Lady Gaga are still on the radio.  Obama is still President.  iPhones and android phones are faster but are still pretty much the same.  Most of the clothes I wore in 2009 would still be in style today (if I could fit into them).  2013 looks almost identical to 2009.

The one thing that has changed is hip-hop still had a significant presence in Top 40 in '09.  Today it's all but gone.

gaga is not played on the radio at all. The only songs major radio stations would play would be poker face & just Dance  and it is rare if those songs get airplay.
