A thread so big it had to be called Omega. The fashion The Fads  the Fails known as 2005!
Here is the place to share you're personal thoughts on The Golden year of the 2000s known as 2005
while looking at this little trip down memory lane as a refresher in case you forgot. Did you hate it?
Did you love it? Does it really stack up as one of the greatest years ever? You be the judge.

The Rap Bubble Bursts The Decline

In 2005 50 cent released his new album to record breaking sales. This would be the burst to the rap bubble , as this
was the last rap era to ever achieve such heights. Shortly after this era Rap/R&B sales declined and have never been back since.

Atmosphere vibe

2005 had a very relaxed feeling to it. Things were changing but the old guard of society was still in place.
There really wasn't much to worry about.

The Last Year End of an era

2005 still had Mall Culture. Mall rats were very big  in 2005. Not as big as other years but still big. 2005 would
see the last year as a mall would be the basis of hanging out. Any Gen Y'rs that were in highschool at the time will know what I
am talking about. You could look at 2005 as the last year that we didn't become socially isolated. People went outside & did things.
Gen Y is usually  the targeted age group of this year. Many of you reading this were aware 2005 was going to go down in history
as a legendary year. There were so many things that could have went wrong that didn't. Does it win by default? No. But I realize
there is alot of hype of this year. It has attained legend status among this website & has deserved a thread such as this to depict it.

I know this is the OMEGA one lol,  05 had no worrys at all. The 2005 vibe had so many 90s influences its not even funny!  That could be why early  gen Z thinks  2005  is a  year in the 90s

I believe comparing 05 to the 90s borders on decadeology which is not approved on these boards.

There is no comparing ,    It says  there was 90's artists along with 80s music, that is not decadeology.
If prince a  80s artist comes back this year, and i mention he came out in the 80s  you would say omg DECADEOLOGY
mentioning the decade name isnt decadeology

If all you do is look for something to report me on than thats just sad, which clearly is the case

That may be possible we can check with tam

I think people are concerned by your approach. We've just come through a rocky patch with a group of decadeologists and you're getting caught in the wake.

My suggestion to you, if you're truly interested in discussing the awesomeness of 2005 (as you perceive it) is more words/less pictures.  Right now your threads feel like you're spamming the boards.

If that's your intention we'll deal with it- if it's not your attention maybe try a different approach. You're dealing with battle worn people here who are skitterish and suffering PTSD u suggest you tread lightly lol.

The thing is people have come here and posted a lot of pictures, and little dialogue, to "stimulate conversation"

I get that you want do something new and different but right now you are doing exactly what those (what did you call em? Dumb ppl). You're doing exactly what they did before you.  People are on edge. As a mod I'm just trying to help you out so you don't get unjust judges and ultimately banned.

You can do what do and deal with tam or you can heed some sound advice and try and play well with others.

I truly don't care one way or the other.

Just to be clear I never said don't post pics but the first was overloaded with them. People with slow computers have to wait longer for them to down load. I post from my phone so for its a lot of scrolling and in general there's just not a lot to talk about if you post more pics than dialogue. That's all.

How did 05 treat me? I have no clue I don't really look at or analyze specific years in my life. I'm of the age where time melds into one big glom for me there's very little difference between 05 and pratically any other year of the 00s.

I see it this way, nostalgia is not a critical thing it's an emotional thing. When we go through a period of time that emotionally means a lot to us, the stuff we watch and listen to is not necessarily critiqued. We love it because we associate it/try to associate it with the emotional significance of that time. It might be to do with the neural networks in our brains.

For e.g

I love the song 'Softly Whispering I love you' by Paul Young because it reminds me of the wonderfully emotional times I had with my family around 1990/1991. However, at the time I remember specifically hating it because I felt Paul Young messed the song up which was originally done by a group called The Congregation in the 1970s.

See what happened? I felt two separate responses to that song in two different time periods. I hated it at a good time in my life but that is now replaced by liking it because it reminds me of that good time in my life. Sometimes it's not what it is but what it represents.

What happened to you in 2005?

Oh i know exactly what u mean, I hated  We Belong Together. Like I would walk into a cvs or a mall and here it and be like ughhhhhhh. Also Boulevard of Broken Dreams got on my nerves .  But then later ur like  OHH remember we belong together that was the slowww jam!  I think as time passes we like tend to give higher praise to events. I still don't like Greenday but that song reminds me of when i was a teen  so it gets a waiver pass.

I was a  Junior student in 2005, but i don't know at the time everything seemed like culture was good  & i knew it while it was happening. I don't mind some of Green Day's stuff and do like 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' but it's not something I listen to all the time. That's exactly it. The song despite not being your favourite reminds you of good times so you let it 'into the nightclub despite it not wearing the right footwear', lol.

Your teachers were saying that in 2005? Blimey! I don't remember anything really significant happening in 2005 but the important thing is whether you think it is significant.

O wow i like that analogy , its true. Like  back in 05  I feel like the world was in this balanced era, (pop culture wise)Music wasn't 2 crazy & fashion was rather bland It was like this safe fine line of just evening out.  Yeah my drama teacher kept telling us  be grateful of the era you are in there won't be one like this again, at the time I sorta felt like that. Like do you find it shocking that I was aware of that fact? Or maybe it was Hs nostalgia

Maybe your teacher is Nostradamus or something. If he said general statements like that without telling you why then he can't be that great of a teacher. How old are you? Maybe your teacher is Nostradamus or something. If he said general statements like that without telling you why then he can't be that great of a teacher. How old are you? It seems like you are too young to worry about something like nostalgia. You live your life now and then think about it when you are old and in a nursing home. :)

Haha he was sorta young. he got the job in like 2005 that same year so he wasn't like an old teacher. He was like one of those cool teachers. I am 24, I have a vivid memory of things and can recall things such as the wall of the highschool or the smell  in the staircase.

There was a "Summer of 2005" thread, it's been locked recently by one of the mods.

Here's another 2005 thread, also locked

Maybe he'll make a Winter Of 2005 thread. ::)

Perhaps we should report this one as well.

If it said something but I don't see much potential for dialogue exchange here.

I agree, it gets boring after a while.

So? What do you call this thread?  ::)

I understand. Cut grass takes me back to being a kid again. :)

I checked the early pages of the 1980s section when the new forum update started while I was bringing old topics back to life. There are a lot of posts with hardly any interest based on 'Can you help me find this?' or 'Do you know who did this?'

I can understand why you feel the way you do but all I know is I had a good dialogue here with Mr Tattoo that may/may not have happened if he didn't create it. :)

The better question is: why make a unique "omega" or "mega" thread for every year of the 2000's?

You could condense it into one giant thread and make an individual post for each year.

That would make this the first thread rather than the last one (omega). Of course, that would defeat the objective as, once he makes another thread, it wouldn't be the last thread.

Not if you think of it like alpha male I would say an alpha thread dominates all other threads. This is more like a Sigma or theta thread.

I remember back in 2004, tons of youngsters were saying that music sucked then, now some people are saying music from 2004/2005 was the golden age of music or something.

Jesus, there are some good songs on the radio now, there are acoustic songs coming on the radio these days, plus some of the electro-pop songs are fun and catchy!

Then 10 years from now, some people are going to say that 2013 was such a golden time. The cycle never ends does it? I have to admit though that music from 2001 to 2010 was genuinely sucky, but the past few years music has improved, the quality of it.

In 2005, MAINSTREAM music was soooo hip hop and r&b in the USA, but to me it sucked. I like a lot of 80s rap, hip hop, and r&b songs, but 00s music in those genres sucked in my opinion.
Although I gotta admit I did like Mariah's 'We Belong Together' song and even Greenday's songs.

The people that thought music then sucked were some people on the same board!! I think it was different people though.

Mainstream at the time wasn't very good, in my humble opinion.

But I think some people thought underground rock music was okay then, that's what some of them told me!

I guess everyone's got different opinions.  :D

I agree with the OP's perspective about 2005. There were a lot of good movies such as Batman Begins, Star Wars Episode III, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. There were some premiers of good TV shows such as HIMYM, The Office, American Dad, and even some short lived Fox series such as The War at Home and Stacked. The only thing I didn't like was the fashion, the boho look. It wasn't feminine/sexy enough for me.

Someone in one of these 2005 threads said something about how that year had a mid-90's feel. At first, I fully disagreed, but now I kinda see what that poster was thinking, at least in terms of music. From what I can remember, 2005 was dominated by some popular mid-90's artists like Mariah Carey, Green Day and Gwen Stefani (of No Doubt fame). Rob Thomas (of Matchbox 20) even had a few popular hits.

I also thought about what the OP said about the rap bubble bust. I do remember the charts in early 2005 being dominated by mostly hip-hop such as 50 Cent's "Candyshop", while in the fall Kanye West's "Golddigger" was one of the few hip-hop songs in the charts. But what I think really killed hip-hop was the cheesy snap/ringtone rap of late 2005, such as "Laffy Taffy". On my iPod, I have a playlist for each year and the songs are mostly in order of when they are released or when I hear them. On my 2005 playlist, it starts with "Some Cut" by Trillville and "Candyshop", and has lot of R&B songs by Omarion, Bow Wow, and Pretty Ricky; while the later part of the playlist has tracks like "Sugar, We're Going Down", "Feel Good Inc.", and ends with Madonna's "Hung Up".

Yes,  Like in 2005 it shaped that 90s feel. You had the actual 90s artists on the charts charting singles lol.

2005 could be 1995 part 2 if it wanted  2 (it kinda is)  music really shapes the year. 2005 is such a fuzzy year now anytime I think of it i get those  days of our lives  haze effect  feeling lol

This topic is starting to turn into a decadeology discussion so I have decided to lock it as such threads are not permissible as outlined in the rules.

http://www.inthe00s.com/index.php?topic=32990.0

Please review what decadeology is defined as at the sticky.

Thanks.
