Subject: Nostaglic Over Early - Mid 2000s (2000 - 2007)

Written By: MarioDaDon on 08/20/13 at 9:34 pm

I was born in 1996 , So I spent basically a majority of my childhood in the 2000's & In my opinion , in comparison to 2013 , I feel like before 2008 , Life was fun & more simple , I remember actually chilling outside , conversing and having mischievous adventures with my friends everyday at the park & around various parts of my neighorhood , now a days I'll return to my old neighborhood the parks look like a graveyard I rarely see children playing outside like we did , even though technology was evovling rapidly in 00s , we weren't as depended to it as we are today , we always found innovative ways to have fun , even music was alright back then probably not as good as the 80s & 90's , but when it comes to club bangers & dance music 00s was the golden age & everybody had their own unique style , now when I flip to Mtv jams & hits every artist has the same demeanor , flow etc & the same generic techno beat . TV shows were also at its peak (early - mid 00's) we still had shows like That's 70 show , Mad Tv , My wife and kids , Thats so raven , even Stevens , Degrassi (before 08) , I could go on all day but now a days everything seems just to be reality shows w/ people in their 40s acting like teenagers in high school , but back to my point I feel like since 2008 pop culture & society has just been going down a continuous downward spiral , maybe it had something to do with the Stock market crash in 2008 , who knows , but I know I can't be the only person feeling this way ? I was born in 1986, and feel the same way about the 90s and the first three years of the 2000s.  These feelings happen to everyone as you grow up.  I guarantee you that the feelings your are experiencing now will be magnified a thousand-fold when you are in your 20s.  Others of your age will go through the same experience, and the 2020s will most likely be all about 2000s nostalgia, just like this decade is increasingly focused on nostalgia for the 90s.

now a days I'll return to my old neighborhood the parks look like a graveyard I rarely see children playing outside like we did , even though technology was evovling rapidly in 00s , we weren't as depended to it as we are today , we always found innovative ways to have fun

Unless they grew up in a war zone or had incredibly abusive guardians, everyone views their childhood this way.  I think it largely has to do with the fact that we our brains are still developing and everything seems so bright and new and colorful, even if it isn't.

even music was alright back then probably not as good as the 80s & 90's

It wasn't.  When pop radio in the 2000s played hits from the 90s, even if I didn't immediately recognize it as a 90s song, it was often much better than what was on the charts.  Again, that was me judging the music with little to no nostalgia at all.

but when it comes to club bangers & dance music 00s was the golden age & everybody had their own unique style , now when I flip to Mtv jams & hits every artist has the same demeanor , flow etc & the same generic techno beat .

The first part about what you say is very debatable.  Each decade has had its own unique vibe that really can't be compared to any other time; the 70s had the glitz and glamour of disco, the 80s had the future-oriented electro-pop, the 90s had the soul and hip-hop influenced house music (as well as some reggae and later bubblegum), the 2000s had bubblegum and urban dance music, and nowadays we have EDM that puts a heavy emphasis on driving electronic beats.  I actually believe that pop music is improving, with a slow growth towards the use of non-synth instruments and more rhythm.  I honestly have high hopes that we'll see some great music this decade.  I do agree that for several years, we've been plagued with flat beats and the abuse of autotune.  Hip-hop has suffered terribly with all the Dirty South crap, though with guys like Macklemore, lyricism and good beats seem to be coming back.

I would really love to see rock.  Good rock, with riffs and solos, not post-grunge junk.

Nowadays we have Game of Thrones, Fringe, Boardwalk Empire, Falling Skies, which beat all-hollow much of the stuff we saw in the early to mid-2000s.

How do all these youngsters get nostalgic? A youngster born in 1996 is only turning seventeen this year. Wait until you have memories that are at least fifteen years old (and I'm not just talking toddler memories) before complaining about "good old days". I liked 2007 also, but it's only six years ago.

2007 was the year Britney Spears was all over the news for dumb crap, including her head shaving.  I personally remember the last few years of the 2000s being incredibly vapid culturally.

The second half of 2007 was a pretty amazing time society-wise (at least in my experience). However, the idea of someone born in 1996 getting nostalgic at only seventeen is beyond me.

What do you mean by society-wise?  I do agree that being nostalgic at 17 is a bit odd; that tends to be the period when people are the least nostalgic of their childhood.

That's normal as they were a long time ago. As a matter of fact, I'm already getting nostalgic for 2007-2010.

They're too young to get nostalgic for anything.

Of course life was easier when we were kids and teenagers. But that has nothing to do with the respective decade.

It scares away all the good people who have been on the site, and left...and only the decadeologists are left who think 1992 is 1964.
I'm not even nostalgic for 1990 yet, too recent.

Wait...I think I have typed that response "I'm not even nostalgic for 1990 yet, too recent."  about 100 times, coz all these topics keep coming back, all the time...they usually get blocked, and it starts all over again. Then people will argue that 2000-07 is not nostalgic, then people will argue it is...then people will say only 2000-03 is nostalgic, then there will be arguments there... people create new IDs just to argue with themselves....Then people will say they are Gen Z and people will argue it's gen y instead.. and it will go back and forth for a few pages .then people will define the core of a decade...people will argue a certain year is included...and not included...argue for pages...and pages.....

I can understand why someone would be nostalgic over the early 2000s and even the mid 2000s. 2008 probably has more in common with today than 2003 (or even 2004), hell I even remember being nostalgic for 2004 by the time 2008 came around, but that's for personal reasons more than anything really.

Weren't you born in 1994? You're STILL under 20, you were under 15 in 2008. Will you come back tomorrow and call 2009 the "good old days"?

What's Good All The Judgmental Replies ? Everybody Is Different , I Wasn't Informed That Their Was An Age Requirement To Reminisce On Brighter Days , Yes I'm 17 But Even Though I'm Still An Adolescent , Life To Me These Days Seems Very Dull & Vague , That's Why I Usually Dwell On The Past , But That Doesn't Mean I'm Not Gearing Up For My Future , So Quit The Bullsheesh , I Specifically Made This Post For People In My Age Group ( People Born 93 - 96), Obviously If You Were Raised In The Different Era You're Not Gonna Agree W/ ME !

If you were born in 1995 or '96, unless you have some kind of super intelligence that allows you to absorb and understand information at 3 or 4, you cannot logically call yourself a 90s kid.  That being said, nostalgia is a highly subjective and individual thing, and no two people remember an era exactly the same.

He never said he was a 90s kid.
However I agree with you, that nostalgic is very much a subjective thing.

That's true but it seems kind of silly to refer to less than ten years ago as the "good old days". I could be nostalgic for the pizza I had a few days ago, but it's still not "good old days".

For what's normal, yeah, being nostalgic at 17 could be considered odd, but think about it like this most people at 17 are fixing to enter into senior year. It can be a point in time for nostalgia i could imagine. Now, when i was 17, nostalgia didnt hit me until graduation, and it still wasnt that much. Now, I'm 21 and i'm getting a little nostalgia about my childhood, but not a whole lot, honestly.

I'm quite nostalgic for around the time they were born right now.

Nostalgia of 17-year-olds? I will never be able to understand that. When I was 17-20, I was happy to be that age and not a kid anymore. Why should I have had nostagia for my 90s childhood which was barely 10 years ago back then?
