Subject: Early to mid 2000's Hip hop / R&B

Written By: MarioDaDon on 09/28/13 at 3:25 pm

In my opinion , this was the last era where rap & rnb was tolerable  even though it wasn't as lyrically advanced as the mid 90s , everyone had their own distinctive flow , beats and style , after 07/08 everything began to get generic and now everyone sounds like a carbon copy of each other , but here is some songs I enjoyed from this era .

Early 2000s were definitely the final years for Hip Hop in my opinion. R&B is still pretty tolerable

My list.

Sisqo - Thong Song
Joe - I Wanna Know
Ja Rule - Down 4 U
Ja Rule - Always On Time
Usher - U Don't Have To Call
Ashanti - Foolish
Aaliyah - More Than Woman
Usher - U Got It Bad
Fat Joe - What's Luv?
P. Diddy - Bad Boys For Life
P. Diddy - I Need A Girl
N.O.R.E - Nothin'
Tyrese - How You Gonna Act Like That
Clipse - Grindin'
Joe - Stutter
Ja Rule - Mesmerize
LL Cool J - Luv U Better
Jay Z - Excuse Me Miss
Joe Budden - Pump It Up
Ludacris - Splash Waterfalls
50 Cent - 21 Questions
Tank - Maybe I Deserve
Tyrese - Signs of Love Makin'
Nelly - Dilemma
Beyonce - Me, Myself And I
Chingy - One Call Away
Twista - Overnight Celebrity
Murphy Lee - What Da Hook Gon Be
Pharrell - Frontin'
Ludacris - Act A Fool

Just a few. You get the point.

Some of my favorite hip hop and r&b songs from the early 2000s:

Stutter / Joe featuring Mystikal
Crazy / K-Ci & JoJo
Miss You / Case
One Mic / Nas
Without Me / Eminem
Beautiful / Snoop Dogg featuring Pharrell Williams and Uncle Charlie Wilson
Bringin' on the Heartbreak / Mariah Carey
Dirt Off Your Shoulder / Jay-Z
All Falls Down / Kanye West
99 Problems / Jay-Z
Jesus Walks / Kanye West
My Place / Nelly featuring Jaheim
We Belong Together / Mariah Carey
Pimpin' All Over the World / Ludacris featuring Bobby Valentino
So Sick / Ne-Yo

Unfortunately, hip hop/r&b started to really suffer around the latter part of 2005, when snap music ruled the airwaves and catchy, shuffling beats were mostly exchanged for barebones repetition.

While I'll argue outside the US and in the late 00s indie/alternative hiphop scenes, you had good rap/hiphop. The early-mid 00s were great too.
