Subject: 2003 The Year In Music

I know that 2003 wasn't the greatest year for music but you know that this has to be done.  So now here's your first video for 10 years ago.  :)

I actually didn't really get into her music until this song was a hit on the charts. In fact, I really started to enjoy this song due to its hard-rock sound, which is atypical of Christina's music.

"You Raise Me Up" is a song that was originally composed by Secret Garden's Rolf Løvland and the lyrics by Brendan Graham. In 2003, David Foster decided to produce the song after being introduced to it by Frank Petrone of peermusic, the song's publisher. He chose the up-and-coming Josh Groban to record the song, which was accompanied by the great tenor Craig Von Vennik of the Establishment. Groban's version made it to #1 on the Billboard adult contemporary chart in early 2004 and remained there for six weeks. This version also peaked at #73 on the Billboard Hot 100, his first single to do so, and was nominated for a 2005 Grammy award. The song was written by and for Løvland himself and performed for the very first time at the funeral of Løvland's mother.

I enjoyed this one. 8) Kinda underrated, but it supposedly did well on the Dance Music charts.

Pausini is an Italian-born singer who sings in three different languages: English, Spanish, and Italian.

I love the year 2003 for music. A lot of it probably has to do with nostalgia though. I may have been only four during 2003, but I remember a lot of things from that year, and 2003 songs were played a lot in 2004 and 2005 as well.

That's exactly how I feel. For me personally, 2003 is the first year that I can remember things really well. I do feel nostalgic for songs which were released prior to 2003 (or even before I was born), but it isn't the same, because I can't remember when those songs were actually new releases and still in the Top-40 charts. Whereas, with 2003 (and with every year since), I can remember when songs such as, "Move Your Feet", "Numb", "Bring Me To Life" and "Crazy In Love", were brand new and were in the Top-40 charts.

People that think 2003 was a bad year for music were either too young to remember it, or spent way too much time listening to Top 40 radio. 2003 was an AWESOME year for rock music. In fact, I'd put it up against any year since the '60s in terms of overall quality.

Not necessarily. It just depends on peoples taste in music. I personally wouldn't say that 2003 was a terrible year for music, especially when compared to other 2000s years and the 2010s. A lot of the songs which were released that year do make me feel nostalgic and bring back fond memories. However, in saying that, I wouldn't exactly go out of my way to listen to most of the songs which were released that year. Apart from the songs off Linkin Park's Meteora album, "Like a Stone" and "Go With The Flow" are pretty much the only songs from 2003 I really like, in all honesty. I've always thought that "Seven Nation Army" is incredibly overrated, despite the fact that the music video is quite good.

I feel you. There was plenty of crap released in 2003, just like every year, so I'm certainly not saying it was perfect by any means. I admit I might be a bit biased, too, because 2003 was probably my absolute height of being into popular music as a high school kid at the time. I still know almost every song that came out that year like the back of my hand. I think the reason I like 2003 so much (and really every '00s year pre-2007) is because rock music was still a dominant force in mainstream culture. Rock is my favorite genre of music, so it's lack of presence in the 2010's is probably a big reason why I feel so "out of touch" with this decade's culture.

On that last point about "Seven Nation Army", I was a member of the White Stripes Fan Club as a 16-year-old, so we'll just have to agree to disagree on that one. ;) ;D

"Dance with My Father" is the title track to singer and songwriter Luther Vandross' thirteenth studio album (2003). With Richard Marx, Vandross wrote the song based on his personal experience. The lyrics recall childhood memories with Vandross' father, who used to dance with him and his mother. Despite the lack of promotion due in part to Vandross' hospitalization, "Dance with My Father" became one of the most requested songs at the time. During the 2003 Grammy Awards, "Dance with My Father" earned Vandross the Song of the Year and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance accolades. At the time of "Dance with My Father"'s release as a single on May 30, 2003, Vandross had been hospitalized due to his suffering from stroke. With Luther Vandrooss' death in 2005, "Dance With My Father" was the last top 40 hit for Luther Vandross in the United States, peaking at number 38. The song also peaked at 21 in the UK Singles Chart.

"Man of the Hour" is a song by the American rock band Pearl Jam. Written by vocalist Eddie Vedder, "Man of the Hour" accompanies the closing credits of the 2003 film Big Fish, and is the first track on the film's soundtrack album. It was released as a single on November 26, 2003. The song was included on Pearl Jam's 2004 greatest hits album, rearviewmirror (Greatest Hits 1991–2003).
