Subject: What do you miss from the early 2000s (2000-2003)?

Written By: 90s Guy on 06/28/15 at 2:36 pm

What, from the early '00s, do you miss today?
I miss movies like the Scary Movies franchise coming out and being hits. Jim Carrey still being relevant; Gameboy Color and Gameboy Advance, playing Kingdom Hearts for the first time; awesome if dumb summer movies like The Mummy Returns and Tomb Raider; Evanescence being huge in 2003.

I miss the early internet atmosphere which was still there until around 2003/04. Dial-up, digital dial-up (ISDN), ICQ, simple webpages, the fact that internet was something special... yeah, that was my earlier youth. I also miss the earlier years when TV quiz shows became very popular over here in Germany, beginning with our version of "Who wants to be a millionaire?" in 1999.
I also miss the time when everybody (only) had desktop computers and when people called me to help them with their Windows 98/2000/XP. This has become rare nowadays, because even older people know more about computers and I am not that much of a specialist anymore... ;)

Zoog Disney/Early Modern Era Disney Channel

I wouldn't call 2002-2006 modern era Disney Channel; that belongs to 2007-present! IMO

Honestly I would divide the eras like this.

Old School Disney Channel A.K.A. Zoog Disney (1999-mid 2002): Even Stevens, Lizzie McGuire, The Proud Family (season 1), Kim Possible (season 1), Famous Jett Jackson

Transitional Phase 1 (late 2002-2003): That's So Raven (season 1), Lizzie McGuire (final season), Even Stevens (final season), The Proud Family (season 2), Kim Possible, Lilo & Stitch (season 1)

Classic Disney Channel (2004-2005): That's So Raven (seasons 2 & 3), Lilo & Stitch, The Proud Family (final season), Kim Possible, Phil of the Future, Suite Life of Zack & Cody (season 1), Life With Derek, American Dragon Jake Long (season 1), Dave the Barbarian, Brandy & Mr. Whiskers, Lilo & Stitch

Transitional Phase 2 (2006-early 2007): Hannah Montana (season 1), High School Musical, Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Kim Possible (final season), That's So Raven (final season), Phil of the Future (final season), American Dragon Jake Long (final season), Lilo & Stitch (final season), The Replacements, Emperor's New School

Modern Disney Channel (mid/late 2007-2010): Hannah Montana, Sonny With A Chance, Wizards of Waverly Place, So Random, Suite Life of Zack & Cody (final season), Suite Life on Deck, JONAS, etc. and all the other stuff on during that time

Current Disney Channel (2011-present): Good Luck Charlie, Girl Meets World, Dog With A Blog, A.N.T. Farm, etc. whatever's on there now.

Watching Toonami!!

Question, when did you first start watching Toonami?

and which TOM had your favorite lineups when it was on the weekday afternoons? TOM 2 (November 2000 - February 2003) or TOM 3 (March 2003 - April 2004)

Just to let you know I didn't start watching Toonami until 2002, so most of my fund memories was with TOM 3 and at least he had some epic shows as well, especially that 2003 year that was my favorite.

I also miss "Napster", my first mp3 downloading software.

When it comes to PC gaming, I miss:

-Max Payne I
-GTA II and III
-Roller Coaster Tycoon (ok, that was 1999/2000)
-King of the Road
-Need for Speed II (a late 90s game which was rereleased in the early 2000s)
-Midtown Madness II

I started watching toonami during the 2000-2001 school year; Basically pre K, the same year I started watching cartoon network in general!!!
1998-99 school year, year before we started preschool, is when I started watching Nickelodeon, Zoog Disney, Disney morning,
My parents told me I started watching Kids WB, Fox Kids and PBS kids when I was really young, but of course I don't recall that though!

R.I.P PLANET HOT WHEELS car toys, merchandise, CD-ROM games, website, worldwide races, everything! Planet Hot Wheels 1998-2004, and Hot Wheels hasn't been the same for me ever since that dark day I went on the website 11 years ago from around this time to find out that it was shut down and it NEVER came back. The CD's and Planet Hot Wheels toys were gone out of the market shortly after that. From 2002-2003 I WASN'T buying a hot wheel car unless I saw that "Planet" Hot Wheels symbol on it.

which TOM had your favorite lineups when it was on the weekday afternoons? TOM 2 (November 2000 - February 2003) or TOM 3 (March 2003 - April 2004)

TOM 2 era was the friggin best!!!!!!! :D  Most of my Toonami memories came from late 2000-mid 2003! 2001 and 2003 were my favorite years of Toonami! However Toonami's 2002 intro was the best!! :)  TOM 3 was good! just wasn't as good as before in my opinion!

I wish I would have started watching in 1999 when TOM 1 was running the show with gundam wing, beast wars, and freeza saga dbz! That looked epic!
But I was still a NICK, Zoog Disney, and Kids WB kid at that point!

The culture, the simple less detailed fun music style, the 90s still significant tag, Cartoon Network, Escalades, Pokemon Cards, Yu-Gi-Oh cards, Hot Wheels, the chill vibe/atmosphere, Hip Hop culture, Dragon Ball Z toys, N64, Gamecube, Gameboy Advance, SP Nintendo era, Nick Jr. BET, 106 N Park, Playhouse Disney.

There are certain things I am nostalgic for that I don't necessarily miss nor would I want to bring them into the modern era.  Lets see, things I actually miss from the early 2000s and actually would revive if possible...

Physical media - This is a big one.  I miss when the CD was the preferred format to purchase music and owning a copy of your favorite album was something special.  That is something that has been lost in the digital era.

PC gaming - Today, PC games are an afterthought compared to consoles and most of them are ported from the consoles.  In the early 2000s, it was its own genre with exclusive games that really took advantage of everything that the tech of the era could do.  The games back then also seemed a lot more fun than today's games do.

Bookstores/Electronics Stores - Borders, CompUSA, Circuit City, etc.  It's a shame those places went under.  Even if its a little cheaper to order off Amazon, it was special to go to the big box electronics superstores and you didn't have to wait a few days for everything you purchased.

Video stores - Redbox is not a complete replacement for Blockbuster.

Guitar music in Top 40 - I miss post-grunge and punk rock bands.

TV sitcoms - In my opinion the sitcoms of the early 2000s were far superior to todays shows

I miss when Nickelodeon was brilliant. It was absolutely awesome during the early 2000s (although the 90s was its golden age. Even better, it still had this logo :)

I miss when Cartoon Network had diversity. It was truly incredible and it was at its golden age at the time. Moreover, it had fantastic shows, bumpers, promos and most of them had certain elements that made people of various age groups watch them.

Here's a logo and Tom 1 from 1999 and 2000.

I miss when Disney was off the chain especially with these 2 logos. The programming was excellent.

I miss when there were more channels that had Saturday morning cartoons

Furthermore, I miss that video games were diverse and awesome; TV shows and movies blowing your mind away; when we were all free from technology as we did more together; music was amazing.

The vibe, Cartoon Network/weekday Toonami, golden age school culture, Pokémon cards, Disney Channel and Kids WB to a extend, the Hip Hop and R&B, Dragon Ball Z toys/ books, Yu-Gi-Oh cards, when anticipated video games were 50$ at balance, Escalades, Video game diversity, Golden Age Nintendo, PS2 to a extent, Hip Hop fashion, and the balanced technology that gave off that confident feel.

I completely forgot I posted in this thread.

I meant Free and AJ 106 & Park. The Program was still watchable during Terrence and Rocsi but by 2007, you could tell it was on life support.
