Subject: Favorite 00s song

Written By: Zelek2 on 01/03/16 at 11:13 pm

It seems that on this thread, there are tons of threads about decadeology or children's entertainment. I like those threads personally, but I'm afraid the mods will start to delete them, especially after the mods locked the thread about "late 80s vs. mid 90s babies" and the "Plural childhood era".

So, let's get some diversity into the threads here. What is your favorite song from the 2000s?

This is a difficult one. Although most of my clear memories of me keeping up with the pop culture of music and artists by myself has been from 2007 and onwards, but I do remember my parents exposing me some of the mainstream music from 2000-2006 as well. Here are some of my favorites here. I don't have time to analyze too much so I'm just picking a few random ones.

Here are a few that come to mind:

I'm really not that big of a fan of the 2000s in music.  For the most part, songs were just okay, but too commercial and unexciting to hold a candle to any of the best hits from the 80s and 90s.

I have several in mind, but I will list them later when I have an opportunity.

To start with...

Whenever Wherever ~ Shakira (2001)
Turn Off The Light ~ Nelly Furtado (2001)
Breakaway ~ Kelly Clarkson (2004)
I Need You ~ LeAnn Rimes (2000)
Only Time ~ Enya (2001)

And the rest to come later.

This song is from a 1999 album, but they later added changes to the song and re-released it in 2000 as a single. So if you hear the 1999 album and 2000 single versions you'll notice some differences in sound and lyrics. And there is also a music video version of the song which was also shot in 2000 (again with some differences).

In 2008, English recording artist Adele recorded Bob Dylan's "Make You Feel My Love". I totally adore this song.

LOL, that's the same song they use for the NFL commercial when the fans are sad about their teams losing for the week!

That same year, she released her debut album, and won the Best New Artist Grammy Award for that year (handed out in early '09).

I will have to take a listen to that song sometime. :)

She's also continued her success into the 10s...

"Back to Black" is a song by English recording artist Amy Winehouse. It was released by Island Records on 30 April 2007 as the third single from her second studio album of the same name (2006). The song was written by Winehouse and Mark Ronson and produced by Ronson. Winehouse's "Back to Black" was inspired by her relationship with Blake Fielder-Civil who had left Winehouse for an ex-girlfriend. The single peaked at number eight on the UK Singles Chart in the United Kingdom and is Winehouse's third best-selling single in that country.
