The first gaming console I owned! It may have been one of the best, and most underrated Nintendo consoles when it came to the overall library and variety, but it did NOT have the best Mario games, and I only cared about Nintendo for Mario games for most of the part. The GameCube had some lackluster Mario titles compared to the previous generations and even the DS & Wii too. Super Mario Sunshine was not my cup of tea since Super Mario 64 or Galaxy 1 & 2 were much better. I prefer Super Smash Bros. Melee over Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but Mario Kart Double Dash can be a little overrated at times despite it being one of the greatest Mario Kart games of all time. I still enjoyed Mario Kart 64 & DS as equally as Double Dash.

The second main console of my childhood after the Nintendo 64, belonging to the latter part. We got it when I was 9, it was my brother's 8th birthday in March 2002. We got Super Smash Bros. Mêlée and Luigi's Mansion along with two extra controllers. It was March break, so we had the whole week off school. I remember the first day we played Smash Bros., we played it for 9 hours straight! From 5PM to around 1AM when my mom came yelling at us in the basement and dragged us upstairs. I remember looking my eyes in the mirror and they were bloodshot red ;D

Then we invited our friends over the next day and our house was like one giant party for the entire holiday. Everyone wanted to come over and play, it was so much fun! :D We ended up buying the fourth controller. My friend who lived about an hour away made sure to sleep over at our house every weekend for the next couple of months just so he could play with us ;D Either that, or we'd go over to his house. The lunchbox design was so convenient for carrying it around, screw the haters :P

All of my Gamecube memories are with Melee, Mario Sunshine and Double Dash. I will definitely say the Gamecube was the last Nintendo home console that captured the magic.

That soundtrack, it takes me straight back! My friend played it while I was over at his house and I just couldn't help but cry tears of joy.

I had the purple console. It came with Mario Sunshine. I also got Sonic hits that every one of his games and then some. Also a game where you play a cop. I don't remember what it was called.

Definitely agree with your statement, although, I'm at crossroads  :-\\  because I'd take Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 any day over Sunshine (which was the crappiest 3-D Mario platform game in the series). The Wii also had New Super Mario Bros. Wii which was just as fun in a different way, bringing back the Koopalings from Super Mario Bros. 3 and having more challenging levels than the original New Super Mario Bros.

and I had just much fun on Mario Kart Wii (especially online with the chaos) as I did on Double Dash (which I think is a little overrated but still great overall).

The only major title for the Gamecube that I clearly remember being better than the Wii was Super Smash Bros. Melee being superior to Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Brawl had better selections and more features but Melee had better gameplay and controlling.

Come to think of it, the PS2 was better than the Gamecube. It had better games and a magnificent controller, and it beats the GameCube out of the competition in the sixth generation. Even though I never truly grew up with both systems.

Melee also has a superior feel, atmosphere advantage to Brawl. Melee was the last Smash that feels actual "Smash" Purely Nintendo. The Project M Development Team did a great job capturing the feel as they stayed true to the series. Sakurai tried to hard to make Smash the best character game in the world and destroyed it.
