Subject: Post the worst songs of the early 2000s

What songs couldn't you stand in the early 2000s? Let's see how they compare with 2016 music.

This song is pretty cute upon first listen, but after hearing it multiple times, it becomes extremely annoying. I can totally appreciate tackling misogyny, but it's done so here in such a cheesy and immature way that it feels more like a ploy for attention than anything else.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCRwjtz4g9k

Easily one of the most overproduced songs from around the Y2K era, perhaps of all time. Usually, rave hits and lucid, in-your-face melodies are what I love about pop from this period, but in this case, there's just far too much going on at once, especially with the abrupt production shift in-between the a-melody and chorus. In addition, the tune itself is extremely bland, while the lyrics are downright subpar.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Phql0ar-m_0

I'd almost call this even more overproduced than "AM to PM," but in reality, it's just butchering a classic song by Cameo with half-assed singing and an incredibly muddy melodic progression. The rap remix is even worse, since it just adds to the chaos. Without a doubt, this is the worst song of Mariah Carey's career.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALEmbB4c7yI

This has probably one of the worst beats of any r&b song I've ever heard. Shame, because Brandy's mid-90s pop hits had some of the finest production in the business.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IP4V3TTC3fw

This is what I'd definitely call a poor man's Stevie Wonder. This guy clearly has the same look and type of voice, but the songwriting here is a thousand times more amateur than the legend he attempts to resemble.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mGBaXPlri8

Admittedly, this one is mostly out of personal bias, but it absolutely disgusts me how this song, or at least the studio executives who handled it, portray female homosexuality in such a phony and sensationalist way as shown here. As a lesbian who just wants a genuine, down to earth romance with another woman, this just makes me feel that much more invisible.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CqXgs-7ico

Once again, I despise this for political reasons. I really wish it wasn't the most homophobic rap song ever recorded though, because it's otherwise hilarious in its desperate machoism, as it came out well beyond DMX's peak in the late 90s.

These, on the other hand, would be my least favorite songs of 2016 so far:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HL1UzIK-flA

This sounds like it was composed by somebody who has little to no experience in music theory. Plus, after over a decade, I'm pretty worn out on Rihanna, even though she was a lot of fun back in the 2000s.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7cVLE4SaN0

Pretty much the same sentiments as the above. The melody here has absolutely no direction or identity, it's just mediocre lyrics to random notes. Any 14-year-old kid could write a song on the same caliber as this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsUWK-fixiA

This ruckus makes "My Humps" sound like "Wish You Were Here." Even the trainwreck that is "L.A. Love" is superior to this. Looking back, it's a shame how such a delinquent production could have come from the same woman who did this elegant, passionate, and underrated pop gem 20 years ago:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7KRYvJvt78

I only have three songs to show for 2016, but that's because only a little more than half the year is over. I won't go as far as to call all music from this year horrible, but sadly, there's still a large amount of garbage alongside the more decent and enjoyable hits of today.

The song itself isn't intrinsically bad, but it was really poorly sung on Eurovision night.

"At Night I Pray" is one of my absolute favorite pop songs of the 1990s. It's pretty much exactly my personal type of ballad with its soaring melodic progression, beautiful vocals, excellent use of harmonization, and earnest lyrics. It basically embodies the exact essence I feel within me as a starving hopeless romantic. It's definitely the polar opposite of "M.I.L.F. $," which is one of the most one-dimensional, bratty, and raucous things I've ever heard.

The late '90s were from 1996 to 1998. '99 was the first year of the new millennium culturally.

But we're talking about the chronological early 2000s. 1999 doesn't count since it was still chronologically late 90s.

Okay, this is cheating a little bit because this song actually came out in 1999, but it was still popular into 2000. It's hard to believe something like this was actually as popular as it once was.

I always thought that song was damn catchy, even though you can sort of say it paved the way for Crazy Frog (shudder) in 2005. Lots of people hated the cutesy scat singing, but at least the entire track was original and musical, as opposed to just slapping a bunch of bings and baps over a lame remix of a classic Eddie Murphy comedy theme.

The vocals are bit too "chipmunky" for my tastes, but I do agree that the beat is catchy as hell.

Well remember that sometimes something can belong to a decade mainly due to it's popularity and place in pop cultural relevance. The song came out '99, but it was still a hit in the early '00s and given awards and praise during 2000-2001. And since I see 1999 as basically an Early 2000s year that just so happened to have a different year number I include it in the early 2000s.

Sorry, but I just listened to these two songs for the first time, and they're even more abysmal than the ones I listed earlier from 2016 (except maybe for "M.I.L.F. $"):

http://youtube.com/watch?v=4NJlUribp3c

It's literally the same awful lyrics repeated ad-naseum, and with no development whatsoever. And it just goes on and on. When "shut up" are the first words circulating through my mind while listening to this, I know I've come across quite a bomb.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=n49qi-dU9IE

This is only slightly more tolerable than the above atrocity. The lyrics are more amateur than a second grade writing project, and the verses feel hardly distinguishable from the already-monotonous chorus.
