Subject: Late 00s Nostalgia (2007-2009)

Written By: muppethammer26 on 12/29/16 at 10:03 pm

The late 00's are about to become 10 years old soon, but let's talk about all the great things that we had back then!

The economy crashed, games were invaded by DLC and microtransactions, social media got big, iPhones came out and stifled social interaction (yes I know they didn't really get popular until 2010, but still, in 2007 you could see the "germs" of the future forming when it was released), Tumblr was founded, and AutoTune began getting big in music.

In some ways, the late 00s were the beginning of the end.

Eh. To me, it didn't really feel like the late 00s had fully "formed" themselves until mid-late 2007.

And all of 2009 is the late 00s.

Maybe my age is playing a factor. But fall of 2006 I already felt that way. Things just felt brand new to me.

The fact that late '00s nostalgia probably will become a thing over the next few years is genuinely scary to me. Time is passing too quickly! :o

Personally, I've been feeling like 2007 to mid 2009 was beyond dated. Late 2009 was basically the start of the early 2010s, especially towards pop culture.

To me, I feel like its form didn't start until very late 2006/early 2007 at least. Even at the time, it went progressive throughout the decade. Late 2007 was when the late 2000s peaked everywhere.

The late 2000s were rather fascinating as a whole, culturally and politically. It was the golden age of Youtube, the start of the prime smartphone era, and also when social media had its way on manipulating people.

2007-2009 were like the opposite to 2016. You didn't have insane riots, countless BLM protests, nor did people freak out over every single thing possible.

It scares me to think that 2007 is almost ten years ago. To think, at this exact moment ten years ago, I was right in the peak of my core childhood. It feels as if several years have passed since I was 7/8 years old, but in retrospect, it really doesn't feel as though it was almost ten years ago.

It was a very dark era for me, but being an optimistic person by nature, there were moments I found happiness and hope, and I look back fondly at those moments, which is more than I can say for the mid-2000s lol.

Plus, they were my high school years :D It was the peak of J-rock (or at least my obsession with it) and my favourite system of all time, the Nintendo DS was pumping out GOTYs like every two weeks. What better way to represent this than a gameplay footage from the 2007 DS rhythm game Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!

Honestly I don't have much nostalgia for the late 00s. not only was the economy bad, I was in junior high and constantly getting bullied for being different, it was just not a fun time for me.
I do miss the emo and scene culture though, I hope that makes a comeback, I have a feeling it will once this whole lumbersexual fad dies out.

Eazy we are going by numeric years when describing eras. We've been doing that for a long time (especially on thread titles). For me the late 2000s are only parts of 2008 and 2009, but in realty the late 2000s are 2007 - 2009 by basic math.

I can't believe 2007 was 10 years ago! The late 00s was a very changeful period and brought a lot of changes to technology and culture. I am very nostalgic for this period for my personal life, less nostalgic for the culture but there were a couple stuff I am fond of especially from 2007. I think those who are in their teens right now are probably very nostalgic for the late 00s.

Holy sheesh, I thought Red Dead Redemption had only come out a couple years ago!? :o Like I said in the 2007 thread, I love the 00s, especially the mid-late because I was in my teens. I would love to have the whole lot back, it wouldn't feel right being a teenager in this era, in a lot of ways things have slown down and stayed more or less as they were 10 years ago.

Well all of these games came from the late 2000s, which was when the PS3 started to be a prime 7th gen console. Although, the PS2 still got attention with sales, despite not getting a lot of production.

Wii = LATE 2000's ONLY

PS3 = EARLY 2010's ONLY

XBOX 360 = LATE 2000's AND EARLY 2010's

The XBOX 360 was the only 7th generation console that stayed popular throughout almost its entire course. The Wii may had still made games in the early 2010's, but it was only popular throughout the late 2000's. The PS3 may had started making games in the late 2000's, but its peak and height in popularity was still the early 2010's!

I think a lot of people would've known that, since the 7th generation wasn't that successful. Even with that, the Wii and PS3 weren't considered as great as something like the DS.

The Ace Attorney series was more like a meme in North America, while Japan took it well ever since the early 2000s (when the first games was released on Game Boy Advance).

The game was popular 2006-2008 in the West, since the games came out for the DS. It's still pretty popular with my friends my age, but I don't think teens nowadays care about it.

How many times do I have to tell you people.....  ::)

Wii = LATE 2000's ONLY

PS3 = EARLY 2010's ONLY

I agree with this even as a PS3 fan ;D

The game was popular 2006-2008 in the West, since the games came out for the DS. It's still pretty popular with my friends my age, but I don't think teens nowadays care about it.

Yeah, but it was also like a meme during the late 2000s. The "Objection" sound became so popular, that it was everywhere on YouTube at the time. But considering I didn't really pay attention to the Ace Attorney until 2014, I digress.

Alright, marquis, eric, NYEagle, let's stop arguing about era division and put out some late 2000s nostalgia!

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/70/Ironmanposter.JPG

This is one of my favorite late 2000s movies. In my eyes, it feels fresher and more interesting than the later movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which tend to feel like copies of one another.

We were talking about the PS3 and how it didn't have any games, except for GTA IV, during the late 2000s. Marquis was the one who brought up the 7th generation stuff, and saying that the Xbox 360 was popular in the late 2000s AND early 2010s. I just didn't really care, since I was a Wii kid back in the late 2000s/early 2010s. Considering that the 7th gen was the only time I played video games, I just had to defend it. It was me against two people who grew up with the 5th and 6th generations (somehow).

As for Iron Man, I did remember seeing it being popular around the late 2000s. So much so, that I remember watching Iron Man Armored Adventures on Nicktoons in 2009. Which was the only superhero show that I watched regularly growing up.

I think those who are in their teens right now are probably very nostalgic for the late 00s.

I'm not really nostalgic about most of the culture from 2008 or 2009, however. 2007 was the last full year I watched cartoons and I remember really starting to dislike popular music in 2008. Personally, it's not so much the popular culture which I am nostalgic about. I'm actually more nostalgic for personal memories I have of the Late 2000s, rather than the TV shows, movies etc. which were released at the time. If we're strictly speaking about being nostalgic of popular culture, i'm actually more nostalgic of Mid 2000s popular culture.

I admit, even though it doesn't feel that long ago to me, I am starting to become more and more nostalgic for the late '00s. I was in college for most of that time (up until 2009), and my life was certainly more carefree at the time than it is today. Like you, it's not so much the pop culture of the late '00s that I'm becoming nostalgic for as much as it is my own experiences from that time.

All superhero movies seem to have a big deal towards crossovers after The Avengers was made. Batman vs. Superman, Suicide Squad, and Captain America: Civil War seem to be huge examples on that.

When I was your age (in 2012) I was very nostalgic for the mid 2000s which 7 - 9 years ago just like the late 00s are today. I do see some teens on YouTube saying they miss songs from the late 00s but I guess the late 00s culture was so crappy that many teens these days aren't nostalgic for it.  :P

I think I said this before, but the early and mid 2000s seem more legit than the late 2000s. It already gave out a vibrant atmosphere for the decade, while the late 2000s was like a mixed bag. To some, it was great. To others, it was mediocre. It wasn't the best, but it beats the mid 2010s.

You're not wrong! Considering the fact that the Late 2000s were dominated by Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Rhianna, it's hard not to understand why the culture of the time was so crappy. :P

I think the nostalgia many teens have for the Late 2000s, is simply due to how young they were in the Mid 2000s and the Late 2000s being the first time period where they can vividly remember things. It's hard to believe, but people who are turning 13 this year were only born in 2004! Their first vivid memories more than likely would have occurred in 2008, so it would be the first year where they would truly feel nostalgic over some things. I know I personally feel that way about 2003, when I was 4 years old.

Personally, I have never really been able to identify solely with the one era. I don't know if you feel the same way or not (since your core childhood was in the Early and Mid 2000s), but I feel as though I was a child of both the Mid 2000s and the Late 2000s, so I feel really nostalgic for both time periods.

I started feeling full-on nostalgic for ages 3/4-8 (1996-2001) childhood around 2010 when the whole '90s kid fad started. I was your age then, 17. I think we're following a similar trajectory! But ages 8-11 (late 2001-early 2004) I didn't get super nostalgic for until a year or two ago (2014/2015) when I was 22.

Late 2004 onwards I still kind of don't care for. By nostalgic I mean, seeing or hearing something from then makes me wish I was back there. Nothing after 2004 does that for me yet ;D

To me, I feel the same about the early 2000s. I was only a toddler within the era though, despite that it seeked in through the mid 2000s. Which is why I mostly see the early and mid 2000s as a singular era.

I mostly feel the same way as well. 2003 is the only Early 2000s year that I do feel nostalgic for, to be honest. Just out of curiosity, would 2004 be the first year that you would truly feel nostalgic of? The reason why I ask, is because I understand that you would have turned four in December 2003, so you still would have only been three years old for the majority of 2003. I can relate, because I personally don't feel nostalgic for 2002, when I was only three years old.

Personally, I am nostalgic for 2003, since it was around the time when I watched Nick Jr and Disney for the first time. It was also the year when I started to use the Internet. It holds in more nostalgia for me than 2002, since I could only remember a few things. Although I'm mostly nostalgic for my childhood in 2004-2009.

2002: first year that I remember
2003: transitional year from toddler years to childhood
2004-2009: core childhood (imo)
2010-2011: transitional years from core childhood to pre adolescence

That's how it is for me.

You must've been on the PS3 or PC because I owned the other two 7th gen consoles and never have been bombarded with the need for DLC(which has been around for 20 years) or microtransactions(only on PC at the time). I never even had Internet connection for my 360 for 2 since I got it around launch, and never had a broken/incomplete game. The Wii is self explanatory.

Just because a technology starts in one era doesn't mean it has any bearing on that culture until it actually becomes popular. The iPhone as you said was never hit until 2010 when the 4 came out and refined the features. The Blackberry was more of a phenomenon.

Social Media of the late 00's was: MySpace, early YouTube, and in some ways early Facebook. At the time, you would've had to have become a recluse to become glued to social media since the only platform it was widely accessible on was the computer.

I loved the Wii, but considering it was a repackaged gamecube with motion controls, it's not hard to understand why it died with the PS2 around 2011. The Wii and PS2 were basically direct competitors.

The Wii was more than a Gamecube. It had larger game discs, a really cool menu, and an interesting library. The Gamecube was only attractive for the library of games, along with the Game Boy Player. That was just it. Sure, the older Wii consoles had backwards compatibility with the Gamecube, but that's what made it better than the Family Edition (which I utterly despise).

I was referring mainly to the hardware. Many analysts referred to the Wii's capabilities as a GCN 1.5 and it got a lot of multiplats with the PS2/PSP. While the HD twins were gradually heading in the gritty shooter direction, the Wii stuck with the PS2 model of bright platformers and puzzle games, which was to its benefit imo.

I liked Food Network the best during the early to mid 2000's when I watched it with my mom. There were more shows about teaching you how to cook great dishes & restaurant tours back then and less reality food shows unlike today. Emeril Live was the prime show of Food Network. I also liked Good Eats, Unwrapped, and Rachael Ray's $40 a Day. I remember when the original Iron Chef was rerunning on Food Network before Iron Chef America premiered. Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives is one of the only true Food Network shows left on there from what I can think of.

Technically late 00s nostalgia should already be here because 2007 was 10 years ago. 2007 feels like a long time ago to me now, like another world, but for some reason 2008 feels much more recent.

Oh I am still saying the cultural late 00s/early 10s (late 00s and early 10s are the same era for me) are 2008 and 2009 and 2007 is still part of mid 00s. But I'll use the numerical system for the sake of simplicity.  :P

I'll be honest, I'm already nostalgic for a lot of late 2000's music which most people tend to hate. A lot of video games too, and some 2007 movies are getting that way for me.

The late 2000's I'd consider the peak of my childhood (turned 8 in January 2007 and was almost 11 in December 2009) even though I'm not as nostalgic for them as I am for the mid 2000's at the moment.

I'm mostly nostalgic for stuff that I watched during the mid 2000s, but I occasionally do look at stuff from 2008 and early 2009. My main nostalgia phase right now is late 2004-2007.

My nostalgia for 07 just triggered. I'm definitely nostalgic for the Hip Hop released then, the Chipmunks movie and Spiderman 3, the Chipmunks movie especially, I associate with that year. I remember watching the DVD with my niece at my sister's in Houston Texas for Christmas of 2007. They also had song remixs all over YouTube my best friend was hooked to. Haha

Yeah... that post was from a time where I was humiliated by mqg96 and Eazy-EMan1995 due to the fact that I posted early 2010s games on the PS3. I'm not even sure if Saints Row 2 was even popular on the PS3 though. But considering that I was only 7-10 during the late 2000s, while Eazy-EMan (or Eric) and Marquis (mqg96) were 10-13/14 at the time, I didn't really have a lot of video game knowledge. Especially if it was on the PS3 and Xbox 360, since I was obsessed with anything related to Nintendo. But now that I think about it, I kinda considered myself too young to even know about GTA during the late 2000s. Even though I watched sh*t like Family Guy and South Park, it wasn't as graphic as GTA IV of all things.  :-[

Saints Row 2 faded into obscurity soon after Saints Row 3 was released - the new game, although it had far fewer features, just had better graphics and smoother gameplay, and probably a more universal appeal due to added craziness. On the PC version, Saints Row 3 and newer are the only games that NVIDIA makes optimisation updates to, so not only will Saints Row 2 be more obscure because of non-native compatibility with the newer consoles, but it'll run even worse on PCs because of non-optimisation by the developers and any third parties.

On to the video games of the Late 2000s, I feel Pokémon Diamond and Pear need mentioning. My best friend had Diamond, gave it to me and I got hooked to it. That game carries really pleasant memories for me. I even still have the copy with Pokémon I used the Action Replay Max to get, which is another 2000s thing. You really don't hear about those anymore. Haha

I remember seeing a Pokemon Diamond and Pearl commercial in the year it was released in North America (2007). I immediately ignored it because I thought it was dumb, even though I did enjoyed watching the Pokemon anime. I regret getting a copy of Pokemon Diamond, since I seemed old enough to play the games. I even had a friend who loved Pokemon so much, that he got some of the Generation 4 toys. Nowadays, Pokemon has evolved way too hard on me, where it just seems a bit rough for me. Also, I wished I got an Action Replay card for my DS in the late 2000s, since I kinda sucked on playing some of the games I owned.

.. I actually thought Pokémon Diamond and Pearl was your type of game. Diamond and Pearl is right before Pokémon went to ruins. I even recall you agreeing with that statement.

Wait, did you suck at games to where you generally needed a Action Replay Max? Their main purpose was to help you unlock CPU only characters and, Pokémon.

I'm very nostalgic for the late 2000's lol. I remember I kept listening to Kanye West's "Love Lockdown" song on my iPod Nano and he was the first rapper I remember hearing lol. I also remember hearing the song "American Boy" by Estelle and for some reason that is one of the most nostalgic songs that makes me miss 2008. I remember YouTube at its golden age in the late 2000's. I remember looking up tutorials on how to hack Club Penguin back in 2009 lol. I never made a YouTube acc tho. I get nostalgia when I hear the soundtrack "Trance - 009 Sound System Dreamscape" it was that one soundtrack that everyone had in their tutorials back in 2009 XD. On my 6th birthday, I received a birthday present from my teacher and it was this ballerina picture frame. I loved it but I can't find it anymore lol. My 7th birthday I went bowling and I remember when the song "Just Dance" by Lady Gaga was playing. That song was everywhere lol

'99ers are equally split between the Mid and Late 2000s, because we spent our core childhoods between 2004-2009. So we are Mid-Late 2000's hybrid kids. 00'ers also spent a good chunk of their core childhood in the Mid 2000s, however they lean more towards the Late 2000's, since they were 7-9 during those years. The late 2000s were a very special time for me in my personal life, especially 2007. I don't think my life will ever be as good as it was back then. I started Junior High school that time and made so many friends and just overall felt so happy at that time. It has such a dreamy vibe to it when I look back just because my personal life was so great back then. I'm not sure why but everything was going so good in my life from ages 12 - 14, and afterwards it never was the same again. 2010 is when things got worse for me and that's the same year I started high school in grade 10. So the late 2000s will always have a special place in my heart, even though I didn't like or care for the pop culture at the time.

I miss 2006, even though I was only four back then. I remember hearing songs from that year on the radio when my mom would drive me to my cousin's house to have a playdate (she was my age) her parents divorced and the last time I saw or talked to her was sometime in 2008, almost a decade ago.
That would be my attitude towards 1997-2001 and the first few months of 2002.

I'm sure movies and TV was good in the late 00's, but mainstream music was just God-awful!  8-P  8-P  8-P

The late 00's is the nadir of the quality of music in my eyes.  :P

I didn't like most of 2006-2008 in music, but 2009 was one of the best. Although for you I'm sure it's the opposite, since I remember you ranking the years, and the 2000s just kept getting worse for you in terms of music as they dragged on. ;D

Oddly enough I've been having some nostalgia from the late 2000s lately. I reminisce of my junior high school days. Even the pop culture is admittedly starting to feel quite removed from today. I feel like more and more people will get nostalgia for the late '00s fairly soon and I think mid 2000s nostalgia will be glossed over or parts of it will be combined with the early 2000s and other parts with late. When I look back on Disney commercials from 2007 - 2009 I have some nostalgia. That whole era is starting to look very dated.

I remember hearing that song when I was 5. I didn't like it and surprisingly I still don't like it to this day xD

Thankfully he was a one-hit wonder like Silento. Real rappers like Kanye West and Lupe Fiasco went on to define music for that era. 2007 was such an amazing year for HipHop.

A one hit wonder? Not even! In fact, Soulja Boy had a few more known hits after his famous song. OTT, I agree that year was great for hip-hop and so was the rest of the era. Some people forget there was just as much non-snap hip-hop during that time.

I'm closest thing to a "hit" he had after Crank dat was pretty boy swag. And that was only because it popularized the word "Swag" not because the song itself was that popular.

I always simply lumped that genre in with electropop.  I didn't realize it was a standalone genre.  Yeah, I do miss those songs.  A lot of songs by Pitbull as well as Akon at the time were "hip house" songs.

I agree here.  2009 was the best year for music probably since at least 2000 or 2001.  It was the first of three of the best years for music I ever experienced.

2006-2008 weren't terrible for music but there also wasn't much exciting happening.  One of the things I remember that era for was the transformation of hip-hop.  We went from crunk in 2005 to ringtone/snap rap in 2006-07 and then synth trap took over completely in 2008.

I remember when "Soulja Boy" was a BIG hit. I was weirdly addicted to that song back in 2007. I can recall watching the Obama Election in 2008. But I was too young to fully understand what was going on. I remember playing the Wii with my family and cousins who were 5-9 years old at the time. I remember the golden days of YouTube when unregistered hypercam 2 and 5 star rating was relevant. Ah, the 2000's were a time to be alive.

The hype for the Wii was real. I got one for my 14th birthday (February 2007), I was so psyched! I'd been hyped for it since it had the codename "Nintendo Revolution" (that's why some Wii games have the name "revolution" in them, like Pokémon Battle Revolution). They were constantly sold out at stores for a good year or two, I was lucky that I found one!

But that entire era feels like recent to me, like 2 or 3 years ago. I look at the list of video game releases of 2007, and I remember going to the store to buy them and playing them, or talking about them on forums like it was yesterday.  :-\\

I like to think that 1997 borns had the ultimate 2000's childhood.

We spent the first 2 years of our life in the 1990s, basically our very primitive early years, our infancy and toddler years.

Then we were turning 3 years old in 2000, when we are considered preschool-aged, and ending as 12-year-olds in 2009, basically the last year of life before you are considered a teenager.

Then we became teenagers in 2010, and we spent our entire, practically ultimate adolescence in the 2010s. We spent the first half in middle/high school and the rest in college, and theoretically would have finished a four year degree by 2019. We also spend the first two years of our young adulthood in our twenties at the end of the 2010s.

I still get to spend a majority of my twenties in the 2020s which is 7 years, and 8 months of it.

Usually the last two years of a decade make for a nice transition before moving on to the next shift.  ;D

We didn't become adolescents in the 2000s like those born in 1993-1996.

1997 was the first year of the Y2K era after the death of grunge, a 1990s defining culture.

Also, we might have been the first batch of people who cannot recall the events of September 11 since we were not yet in kindergarten until 2002.

We got to spend one full year in middle school during the 2008-2009 school year, which was the last full school year in the 2000s unlike those born in 1998 and 1999.

Those born in 1998 and 1999 still had about a year at least until they became teenagers in the 2010s. Though, I was technically a 12 year old for a majority of 2010.  8)

We are also scheduled if we went by the prescribed academic path to have graduated from middle school in 2011, graduated from high school in 2015, and from college in 2019.

I just thought it was a neat thing knowing that we had an ultimate 2000s childhood and ultimate 2010s adolescence.

Yeah, but we spent most of our time as kids in the 2000s, and started becoming teenagers in 2010. People born before 1997 became teenagers in the 2000s, and people born after 1997 still were kids after 2010. We also might have had memories from the 1990s too at 2 years old. I kind of doubt anyone born in 1998 would remember 1999.  :D

I personally can't but they say the earliest a person can recall and start processing memories is from 2 years old when the person has started speaking so theoretically a person born in 1997 might vaguely remember the 1990s. My sister can still perfectly recall and bring up memories of being 2 when we went to San Francisco Bay in late 2002 for the first time because she was more mentally advanced than me, so it's possible. I suppose someone born in early 1998 might even remember late 1999 in that sense. I guess when we're that young being a few months older makes a big difference. There's no way a baby can keep memories since we are all subject to the phenomenon that is known as infant amnesia when we haven't attributed our language part of our brain with our long term memories, so it's underdeveloped usually when you're under 2 years old.

"Memories" from when you're 2 years old don't really count for much of anything because they are very vague and at most only 1 or 2 in number.

I have 2 vague memories from 2001 and they are my very earliest memories. They were getting a tricycle and watching Monsters Inc in theathers. However, they don't count for much because I don't remember anything else from 2001.

My point is that by 3 years old, we have finally become a young child. The earliest you can start registering a child in preschool is at 3 years old, when they are by then fully potty trained. So on that note, a 1997 born might have been able to attend preschool in the 2000-2001 school year, the first full 2000s school year. It's not rare and I was in preschool when I was 3 years old.

Also, a memory is a memory. At 3 years old, I think a person has started getting an understanding of themselves as individuals. When you're only 2, you're still just learning to form sentences but just starting to process and make sense of information. If you can create a memory, that means you were able to make sense out of something cognitively by then, as you were able to. Young toddlers and babies are kind of more impulsive and react and act on body reflex. An 30-month old though is a lot different from a 12-month old so it's disputable. In general, I would say by 3 years old, a person has become more individually aware of themselves and their surroundings. They won't be able to form memories as well as when they're older, but from there it's when it usually starts.

To break it down...

We spent our early childhood years (3-5) in the early 2000s (2000 - 2002)

We spent our middle childhood years (6-9) in the mid 2000s (2003 - 2006)

We spent our late childhood years or our tween years in the late 2000s (2007 - 2009)

It was never about feeling that it was denied. I'm just saying we spent our time completely as children in the 2000s. We were 3-12. You're still a kid at 13 but you're a teenager, and under 3 is toddlerhood and infancy. Thus the term ultimate childhood lol.. you read it wrong.  :D

There was that phone song that was a really popular ringtone.

It must have been a late teen niche song, because nobody I know seems to recognize it. It apparently did chart in 2008 but really far down the list.

I'm not doubting that you are a 2000s kids, but no offence just liking music from the 2000s doesn't make you a kid of that decade becasue it's completely up to that person and that means anyone could claim to be a 2000s kid then, even someone born in 2009! :P. I prefer the 2010s for music, does that make me consider myself a 2000s kid? No. :)

How?! The hilarity was insane. There were a surprising amount of legitimately funny jokes in there that I could see fitting in an experimental adult Netflix comedy.

I admit, the show probably would've been a better fit on Adult Swim where weird art directions are common, but you can't tell me that the vegan guy petting Parker with a stick because he couldn't touch meat wasn't oddly amusing.

My late 2000's nostalgia has really grown this year, I was ages 8-10, I'm now to the point where I get really nostalgic for songs from 2004-2009 in particular.

Some songs from the late 00's I get pretty nostalgic for are Whatever You Like and Live Your Life - T.I., Take a Bow - Rihanna, Paralyzer - Finger Eleven, It's Not My Time - 3 Doors Down, Sweet Dreams and Halo - Beyoncé, Love Lockdown and Heartless by Kanye West, Knock You Down - Keri Hilson, Do You - Ne-Yo, Bulletproof - La Roux, and much more, but I should probably stop here, lol.

I like the late 2000s despite being a rough period for a lot of people, pop culture was getting very upbeat and more changing than ever, even though 2009 was the official first year I started to actively dislike some hit singles ;D

But looking back there are lots of iconic moments from that period, it was also a golden age for pop divas who reigned supreme on music.

Eh, not really. For those of us born in 1988-1991, the late 00's was when we were graduating high school and heading off to college. It felt short-lived and a blur because of all of the changes occurring, especially in 08. It just did not feel definitive to me in the way the mid-00's were or even the early 10's. Back in '06, I do remember having  nostalgia for the '97-'01 period.

A one hit wonder? Not even! In fact, Soulja Boy had a few more known hits after his famous song. OTT, I agree that year was great for hip-hop and so was the rest of the era. Some people forget there was just as much non-snap hip-hop during that time.

People seem to think 2000s Hip-Hop was defined by snap, crunk, and ringtone music in general for some reason  :o

I used to obsess mentally that started around 07 and I'm glad I wasn't one of the bashers. When I tried to watch intros of old Nick or Fox Kids shows, I just could never relate to them while when I eventually watched an intro of Samurai Jack, it hit home for me. By then, I started to appreciate the 2000s and realized I was never a true 90s kid anyway. It was just me trying to be down with the 90s because really, I was too young to understand anything outside of video games and cartoons.

The 90s weren't really my time. Just my beginning coming into comprehension.
Maybe that's what turned him off about the '90s.  :D

That as well as the endless exploitation of '90s nostalgia by Hollywood has turned me off of the decade, even though that was my childhood.  I am really hoping they don't do the same with the '00s next decade.

Anyways, the late '00s was my favorite part of the '00s.  What I would give to return to 2008 or 2009.  Those weren't perfect years, especially 2009, but those were my coming of age years and I am the most nostalgic for them.

They won't. The 90s has a bandwagon phenomenon "everything came out of that decade" everyone will want to be apart of. The 2000s will be overlooked, which it'd at least have less reboots.

When I first got into the nostalgia thing 2-3 years ago, I was around your age, and I was using the 3-11 childhood definition, which would make my childhood 2005-2013, that's half of the 2000's. I tried to claim the 6th gaming generation as my childhood and had raging nostalgia for 2000's Cartoon Network. I started thinking that the Wii was sh*t (even though it was my childhood console) and that the previous Nintendo consoles were so much better. I'd get annoyed when I saw 2000's kid ranges like 1992-2001 because I didn't make the cutoff. I knew about the Personality Cafe generations sub forum, but I never really joined until August 2017. I was really into decade kid debates at the time.

1992-2001 definition annoying also, but yeah i only thought i was some 2000s kid for a little while until 2 years ago i realized i was a 2010s kid and began to kind of proud of it anyways i never really tried to relate myself as some 2000s kid like Dawson does i would usually stroll around the 2000s nostalgia video's and try to correct people on how the 2010s isn't a sh!t decade or when 2000s babies primarily mid-late 2000s babies considering them selves as some 2000s kid, as for Cartoon Network i never got nostalgia for 2000s CN i only got nostalgic for 2012-2013 Cartoon Network. I use the 3-11 childhood definition making my childhood from 2007-2014.

But yet you have 1999 borns clam to be 90s kids. I go be the 3-2 defetion when I'm talking about decade kid meaning. 90s kids 83-92,
00s kids 93-02
10s kids 03-12
Youtuber Sodaboy628 breaks down the decade kid stuff very well, but he deleted the video sadly.

Britney Spears was at her absolute best musicially and sexiest looks wise in September of 2007:

While I agree she peaked musically with the Blackout era, 2006-2008 was an absolute nightmarish period for her :-\\

Oh yeah when she shaved her head  ;D

That's actually the first time I ever heard of Britney Spears  :-X

Nope, my family was too old to pay attention to that teen pop music of the Y2K era while my oldest cousin near me (born in 1994) and myself weren't paying attention to that either.

She was the most famous person in the world from 1999 - 2007. I am quite surprised some people didn't know who she was. I thought every person in the world knew who "Britney Spears" was. The name alone was inescapable.

I knew about her in 1999 when I was 4.

Yeah, she would have been the first image in my head if someone had mentioned "pop music". She was the face of the music industry in the late 1990s and early 2000s. She's like what Taylor Swift was in the mid-2010s or Lady Gaga at around the turn of the last decade, except 10x that. :o

Yeah, I became aware of Britney Spears back in Early 2004, when "Toxic" was released. I was too young to remember her peak of popularity during the Y2K-Era.

Yes she was, the most famous celebrity in the world at one point, anyone can argue that.. And she's not really a musician.
