Subject: What was the first YouTube video you've watched?

Written By: Slim95 on 03/30/17 at 11:17 pm

I thought this would be an interesting topic. What was the first YouTube video you have seen and what did you think of it? What were your impressions of YouTube the first time? For me, this is the first YouTube video I have watched. My first impressions were like"Wow, this is a very funny site! I'll have to check it out some more when I get home.  ;D"  I never thought it would get as big as it is today. I still clearly remember even though it was 11 years ago. I was in school during grade 5 computer lab class and two of my friends showed me it. I discovered YouTube in spring 2006.

The YouTube of 2005-2011 seems so primitive and quaint now.

I miss it.

The very first YouTube video I remember watching was "Potter Puppet Pals: The Mysterious Ticking Noise". Ahhh, good old times.

I first remember visiting Youtube in 2006; the vid I watched may or may not still be there (if so, it might have been reuploaded under a new account at a later time). It was the Animaniacs' parody of "Macarena" (entitled "Macadamia").

I really don't remember. It was a vid by friends I think. Or a music vid of Guns n Roses or Van Halen.
I do remember before watching vids on Google Video. Because there was no YouTube.

It was around since early 2005. I think Youtube was around later in 2005, but more people knew google back then of course.

It was probably some Runescape video with nu-metal background music, but the first video I distinctly remember watching was The My Humps music video in late 2005 which I won't link.  :-X

There was also Dailymotion, which had full movies and softcore porn.  :-X

Baidu and Youku were best for movies and TV shows though. Actually, they still kind of are. ;D

I used to think Dailymotion and AOL video were alternate versions of YouTube, and I remember when you could press the Google video tab and watch YouTube videos through the google site. I wonder if Google video had its own comments too. I'm not sure it's been a long time.

What about Vimeo and Metacafe?

Subject: Re: What was the first YouTube video you've watched?

It's weird, but the YouTube of roughly 2005-2011 - or heck, the Internet of 2005-2011 - seems very dated and quaint nowadays.

I never thought Web 2.0 would feel old, but now it feels like it would fit nicely with the Web 1.0 years of 1995-2004, in terms of "oldness".

Social media sucked all the mystery and wonder out of the Internet.

No. Google Video doesn't exist anymore. Youtube pretty much replaced it.

Probably so since they both have/had mature content.

At a friends house the first Youtube video I think I saw was a Lego Star Wars animation that someone had made and uploaded that had been featured on the lego site back in 2007 It was called an average death star day. I  thought the site was cool as back then it was all about people making their own videos or at least seemed to be.

YouTube before Google+ was really different. You could have a cool username with no problem, you could use another email provider besides Gmail, you could actually customize your channel with color schemes and backgrounds, and you also didn't have so many terrible YouTubers that got famous only for money.

The video was uploaded on June 25, 2005 by "Cow". However, since that video is blocked I found a reupload from a different channel.

The first time I ever watched a video on YouTube was in late January 2006. I remember because it just about a week or two before I made my account on this site. I was doing a Google search trying to look up the lyrics for a song, and wound up finding a link to the music video on YouTube. That was the first time I had ever heard of the site, and was completely blown away by how much was on there already at that time.

Unfortunately, I can't remember what song it was.

It wasn't the first video I remember watching on YouTube, but it was definitely the one that launched my daily usage of the site (something I still do to this day). It was during the summer I was entering 7th grade and around when I started to go through puberty (started to hit my first growth spurt, growing hair, started to relentlessly swear, etc ;D) so this video in a weird way represented the beginning of my adolescence.

Yeah same it was kind of like a dream come true at the time. The fact that I can search any video I wanted to see rather than sifting through VHS/DVDs to find a scene of a show I remember. I was hooked onto the site right away and still am 11 years later.

First YouTuber I subbed to was nigahiga in late 2007, I think. 2006-2010 were my YouTube peak years, that's when I watched it the most.

When did everybody here create their first account on YouTube? I created my account on July 3, 2006. I'd already been going on YT for about six months at the time, but I finally went ahead and created an account at that time so I could watch videos flagged for "adult content".

I didn't have high-speed internet when YouTube came out. I'd heard about it a lot from my friends, and I must've watched it a bit at their houses when I went over. No specific recollection of what videos, though. At school, we had good internet, but they blocked YouTube at the time. However, we found out that teachers didn't have the sites blocked, so one day we convinced our teacher during a school party to let us play YouTube videos, and it being the golden age of the Rickroll, we saw a lot of "Never Gonna Give You Up." Good times.
