Why do you keep making these type of threads?

Exactly...he can just make all of this into one thread → "What are your favorite songs of the 1980s/1990s/2000s by year?". Same for his move threads → "What are your favorite movies of the 1980s/1990s/2000s by year?"

Because I can. If it bothers ya don't respond. And plus every year brings something special when it comes to films and music.

It's just a suggestion because it doesn't make much sense to create so many threads when you can have it all in one thread. Also, I can respond or not...if I want to.

Well have fun creating threads that very few people will care about.

You seem to have a lot of love for British music. Are you from the UK or do you just love the UK/UK music? (just asking :))

I just have a strong preference for British pop over American pop. I own almost every album in the main British Now series and have just discovered far more variety to my own personal liking. They were far more embracing of genres I liked the most, be it eurodance, house, britpop, 2 step, trance, new wave, synthpop, or just anything colorful and melodically driven. American music has traditionally been a lot more macho, rootsy, or crass. Hip hop, hard rock, adult contemporary, and r&b are all much more hit-or-miss genres for me personally.

OH OK, I understand. Oh and just for clarification...you're American, right?

You should take a listen to Australian music as well. I think you would be surprised at how good of quality Australian music actually is. There are so many good Australian artists and bands out there that just don't get the international recognition that they deserve. I'm sure myself, Fearsword and aja675 may be able to make a few song suggestions. ;)

Here are MY personal favorite top 5 from that year:

1. "Whenever Wherever" - Shakira
2. "Turn Off The Light" - Nelly Furtado
3. "Only Time" - Enya
4. "Drive" - Incubus
5. "I'm Like A Bird" - Nelly Furtado

Honorable mentions that "missed the cut" (but are on my overall top 100 list of songs from the 00s decade):
"Breathless" - The Corrs (this one got lots of radio airplay in early '01)
"Fallin'" - Alicia Keys
"Everywhere" - Michelle Branch (although two follow-up tracks from the same album would become hits in 2002)
"Island In The Sun" - Weezer
"Flake" - Jack Johnson
"Get The Party Started" - Pink
"How You Remind Me" - Nickelback
"Wherever You Will Go" - The Calling
"Dig In" - Lenny Kravitz
"Elevation" - U2

I explored the Australian charts during mostly the 90s, but unfortunately not only are they generally a bit more similar to the American charts in than the UK charts are to the American charts, meaning there was less new music for me to discover compared to when I began collecting the British Now albums, a huge chunk of Australia's exclusive music isn't on iTunes/Amazon MP3/Spotify, forcing me to watch low-quality YouTube videos instead.

Unfortunately, the Australian charts have always been very similar to the Billboard Hot 100. However, with that said, a lot of Australian songs do make it onto the Top 40 chart. You just have to know where to look for them. ;)

That's interesting, because I have been making compilations of Australian songs which have charted in the Top-40 and most of the YouTube videos I have come across have been in reasonably good quality. There are one or two videos which are in poor quality, but most are generally good. Here are three videos that I have made for the 90s. They include brief snippets of each song that charted in the ARIA Top-40. It might be a good way to discover songs that you might like. The audio for one or two songs may sound a little bit compressed, because I converted the videos in HD. I did unfortunately forgot to include one or two songs when I made these videos. They might be worth listening to. :)

I know it's been a few weeks now since you made this post, but if you don't mind me asking, what did you try searching for on iTunes/Amazon MP3/Spotify? Because I tried searching for a few Australian bands/artists, and I was able to find quite a few songs on Amazon MP3...

None of the bands I shared above had hits in the US either and I was on the American version of Amazon. I didn't use iTunes or Spotify, because I can't access the American versions of those sites.

Some artists I CAN find:
* Kylie
* Human Nature
* The Living End
* Tina Arena
* Silverchair
* Savage Garden
* Cold Chisel
* Vanessa Amorosi
* Wendy Matthews
* Most bands with popular followings in the United States, like Men at Work, INXS, AC/DC, Tame Impala, etc. Of course, of the above, Kylie, Tina Arena, Silverchair, and Savage Garden all attained some success in the United States.

Some artists I CANNOT find:
* Dannii Minogue
* Euphoria
* The Mavis's
* CBD
* Merril Bainbridge
* Peter Andre
* Deni Hines
* Kulcha
* Unique II
* Kym Mazelle
* Leonardo's Bride
* Quindon Tarver
* Kate Ceberano
* Jimmy Barnes
* Icy Blu
* Yothu Yindi
* Jenny Morris
* Rockmelons
* Diesel
* Girlfriend
* Radio Freedom
* Teen Queens
* Lisa Edwards
* Toni Pearen
* Chocolate Starfish
* Melodie MC

It's possible some of the artists from the latter list aren't actually Australian, but most of them seemed to be popular in Australia but not the United States or the United Kingdom.

* Dannii Minogue

I was able to find a few of her songs on Amazon, but none of them are from her original album releases. She is on Spotify though. :)

https://open.spotify.com/artist/6XCS9JCn56Q252cMOTbeq6

* Euphoria

Euphoria were only together for two years (1991-1993). While they were very successful domestically at the time, because the band only ever released a few singles during their short lifespan, their songs are not as readily available. I even tried searching for the band on iTunes Aus, but there were no results. Unfortunately, the only way to listen to their music is via YouTube, although if there is anything positive to come out of that, the songs/music videos are uploaded in reasonably good quality (480p).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mdynaMn8qm0

* The Mavis's

I've found them on Spotify. :)

https://open.spotify.com/artist/6WshiDext64oLUmu6LSHAl

* CDB

https://open.spotify.com/artist/7EUjDdRgLHcgFIL4sfhvFo

* Merril Bainbridge

https://open.spotify.com/artist/0lSDlT2Z5EvUGNIl7WQ7k0

* Peter Andre

https://open.spotify.com/artist/4zVfvSWs6FvSD6B5lQGs2S

All of the remaining artists/bands are on Spotify as well. :) The ones that have a cross through them are not on Spotify.

* Kulcha - Not familiar with them, but they are on Spotify.
* Unique II - They're Austrian.
* Kym Mazelle - She's American, however she is on Spotify.
* Leonardo's Bride - I'm not familiar with the band, however they are on Spotify as well. :)
* Quindon Tarver - He's American, however he released a successful cover of Prince's "When Doves Cry" in 1997 (it peaked at #3).
* Kate Ceberano
* Jimmy Barnes - He is the lead singer of Cold Chisel.
* Icy Blu - She is actually American, however she released a very successful single in Australia in 1991.
* Yothu Yindi
* Jenny Morris
* Rockmelons
* Diesel
* Girlfriend
* Radio Freedom
* Teen Queens
* Lisa Edwards
* Toni Pearen
* Chocolate Starfish

In case you're interested, I also searched for a few other successful Australian bands/artists on Spotify.

Jebediah - https://open.spotify.com/artist/6L9bfTvOEA9BOJEIBhU4ln
Powderfinger - https://open.spotify.com/artist/6LBCQo20ri3tsvbsWWLmr6
Gina G - https://open.spotify.com/artist/25tu0d8Po5c4IVXsZnXUU8 (If I remember correctly, I think you have mentioned before that you're a fan of eurodance. If you are, you might like her songs). :)
Divinyls - https://open.spotify.com/artist/5t06MTkDD3yr5LVs3YFLQC (I think they had a hit in the US with "I Touch Myself". However, they had several other hits as well).
Pseudo Echo - https://open.spotify.com/artist/0FDW3axHactZo8HU0OnNVy
Killing Heidi - https://open.spotify.com/artist/6eQ3AHw7yEVoX87xDS1ZiP
The Superjesus - https://open.spotify.com/artist/7o9kdTx6RmO12iAVVsNehd (Despite what their name suggests, they're not a Christian band.)
Regurgitator - https://open.spotify.com/artist/6n3YUZcayLRuAunJUUelvz
Ratcat - https://open.spotify.com/artist/5ydii9WwX1NPG6k5lrAb6m

That will probably do for now (I don't want to bombard you with different bands/artists). :P If you are interested in certain genres, I can suggest a few other bands/artists that you may like in particular.
