Must have felt great for the LGBT community, but MA is (in general) a very progressive state. Any victory for the LGBT was probably more than welcome in the early 2000s, a very conservative time for social issues.

The 1960s were also a "liberal" time for social issues, yet it wasn't even legal to be gay anywhere in the country at the time except Illinois, and even then, you'd still be persecuted as a social vagrant regardless.

The 1960s were "liberal" time for social movements but not really social issues. However, the rest of your statement is true. I don't think that "LGBT victories" encompasses 2003 in a nutshell though.
