Subject: The Fast and the Furious effect

Written By: TheReignMan99 on 08/03/17 at 5:58 pm

The first three Fast and Furious films had a BIG impact on pop culture in the 2000s.

2001's The Fast and the Furious (the original...the one that started it all), 2003's 2 Fast 2 Furious & 2006's The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift all have a street racing vibe and element...along with the crime and mafia drama. These 3 films are a far cry from the recent films in the franchise but these films are my favorite out of the franchise (yes, even Tokyo Drift) and there impact on pop culture was huge. The first film was based off of a 1998 VIBE magazine article by Ken Li entitled "Racer X" in which he explores the street racing world of NYC at the time (the first film was set in Los Angeles and other parts of Southern California, though). The first 3 Fast and Furious films caused an EXPLOSION of interest in modern JDM street racing.

The films influenced many things such as:

And most notably....

I became aware of Fast and the Furious impact by 03 but as far as it impacting the rest of the 2000s, you just made me realize this. Tokyo Drift gave me a sense of expansion.

A honorable mention to Hot Wheels.

They were popular, but I don't think they had a major impact in the 2000s, unless you mean bringing Vin Diesel to stardom and encouraging never-ending franchises. There were already racing games in the 90s. The cars in the 2000s video games looked like Fast and the Furious cars because they were in the same time period and simply used the most advanced tools available. I would day that they had some minor impact, but they didn't dominate the era.

Never said that they dominated the 2000s but they certainly had a big impact on pop culture.

Also, of course there was racing games in the '90s but none of them were about or inspired by modern JDM street racing. The first 3 Fast & Furious films brought that to the mainstream. They literally changed car culture and pop culture FOREVER. Tokyo Drift literally brought to notoriety in the U.S. street racing and street racing culture from another country (Japan).

The Need For Speed franchise changed the entire formula for their games.

The effect with me is that all the Fast and Furious films have all merged into one, I cannot say which particular scene is from which film.

That certainly a factor, but if the films are on television I will re-watch them.

Especially the one shot in London.

That was Fast & Furious 6 (2013). The last one in which Paul Walker was alive for the entirety of fiiming.

That movie was insane but also entertaining but I LOVE the first 3 films though.
