Subject: Do you associate, This! Is! Sparta! with the late 2000s?

Written By: SpyroKev on 08/28/17 at 1:06 pm

I mean as far as the movie 300 and its parody. Haha I'm seeing glimpses this fad must have been huge through 2007, its raise starting from 2006. Its interesting when you look into it like that. Haha I actually have ran into the Spartan remix series back then and instantly clicked away from them.

This is Sparta! couldn't sound any less 2000s.

I'd pretty much associate This Is Sparta with 2007 and 2008 more. By 2009, it wasn't really used that much and it was a dead meme by that point.

I wouldn't know. I didn't run into it anymore by 08. I'll take your word for it though. I originally had Spartan culture in the title but the catchphrase sounds too iconic and nostalgic.

Spartan culture associated with the Late 2000s sounds hilarious but actually makes sense. Haha

Yeah, it wasn't really that big anymore after mid 2008. It was really just a 2007 meme that gave attention to a lot of people back when 300 was released. Like I said, it didn't really go well for the entire late 2000s, but people could associate with 2007, per se.

I agree that the Spartan meme outbreak was ultimately just a 2007 thing.

It was a 2007 thing, not really 2008. Personally I didn't like it :P Caturday/I Can Haz Cheeseburger and Chad Warden remain the top memes of 2007 ;)

Caturday was originated from 2006, not 2007.

Aside from that, memes from the late 2000s weren't really all over the entire Internet and I'm glad about that. Memes nowadays are like a parasite that people think is cool, but it isn't when they repeat it over and over again.

Yeah that was popular when I started junior high I think. So around 2007.

This.  300 was primarily a 2007 thing, at least for me.  If you remember, the movie didn't come out in most places until March 2007.  Only a few select theaters in places like Los Angeles got to see it in 2006. I think it remained relevant through the first half of 2008.  By 2009, nobody was really thinking about that movie anymore.

300 was popular during the peak of the MySpace era. Borat and the movie Superbad was popular right around that same time as well.

Yeah, I associate with just 2007, kind of like "Very Nice" in a Russian accent with 2006.

I associate Borat with 2007 primarily.  It came out at the very end of 2006 in the US and I didn't see it until 2007.

I liked Bruno a little more than Borat but it wasn't as popular and it wasn't as culturally significant.  If you were in high school or college in 2007, pretty much everybody was doing Borat impressions.
