Subject: "Lady Bird" - The first truly nostalgic movie about The 2000's? [NON SPOILER]

Written By: duenas8 on 01/02/18 at 6:16 pm

I've seen a few movies before which set in The 2000's such as Spotlight (2015), The Social Network (2010) or Boyhood (2014), but Lady Bird is the very first that involves in this nostalgic feeling where combines High School students life and culture elements of the decade.

Should keep this and Boyhood in mind, but IDK, I guess I don't have the attention span to be able to keep up with TV and films any more. Last I watched a film though, I remember feeling sad afterwards because of how beautiful it was.

Her bedroom walls really remind me of the time. My then teenage cousins in England had rooms like that in the 2000's complete with the writing on it and long mirror and everything!

If you're a nostalgia geek, you would love Boyhood because they place pop culture references as each year goes by so you get quite nostalgic especially if you are around my age. They also make these pop culture references obvious so you know exactly what year it is when each scene goes on. I found it quite neat. Although I didn't really love the plot/direction and writing of the movie, I do recommend you check it out at least once.

I noticed a lot of 90s songs used in LadyBird, and man buns and things from 2017 lolol  not really accurate movie at all.
They had a pepsi machine from 2009 up in the movie with the new logo.

"Boyhood" was my choice to win the Oscars for it's respective year, it had 6 nominations but only won one with Patricia Arquette winning Best Supporting Actress.

"Lady Bird" is on my viewing list.

This weekend "Lady Bird" won the Best Motion Picture and Best Actress (Saoirse Ronan) Awards, it looks to be one of the films to watch out for at the Oscars.

I don't really see anything that screams 2000s. It just looks like 2018 but with older computers.

When more film critics and viewers view and rate the film on Rotten Tomatoes, it will lose it's 100% status.

It looks like it's tyring its best to look early 2000s but there's a lot of 2005-2007 stuff in there. I'll have to watch it though, this is making me strangely nostalgic.

That nurse reminds me of Scrubs haha.

I wouldn't even say that, there are pepsi cans from 2010 in there, the new logo pepsi, as well as man buns lol
IMBD tore it apart for having stuff from 2016 in it lol

I laughed when I saw a pepsi machine with the new 2009 post logo in it.

That's so dumb. The '90s Pepsi logo makes me so nostalgic, and they couldn't even get the 2000s one? That was one of the most controversial logo changes back in the late 2000s, a very silly thing to overlook.

I always enjoy a good anachronism in a movie, especially a true blockbuster.

I think it was intentional. Movies use companies logos because they have an agreement with them. If Pepsi and the producers made a deal to use the Pepsi brand in their movie, it would have to be the new logo rather than the old one due to certain agreements.

I know but don't they have certain rules when using company logos? I don't know much about it but I think you need permission or some deal or something.

It's a really bad way to do it though. I guess technically you could replace those Sony CRTs with 4K HDTVs too, even though those didn't exist back then? It just ruins the movie.

Speaking of Pepsi logos, the Pepsi machines at my school still have the pre-2008 Pepsi logo on it. I really miss that logo and I prefer it more than the new one. The new one just looks weird to me.

When I travel abroad I see the '90s Pepsi logo sometimes. That one was the best IMO /notbiased

How?  :o It was a pretty drastic change so I am very surprised lol. It went from this (pre-2008):

https://i.redd.it/3isju06cfpvx.jpg

To this (after 2008):

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/0f/Pepsi_logo_2014.svg/1200px-Pepsi_logo_2014.svg.png

It was one of the most drastic changes to a logo a company has ever done because Pepsi had that old logo shape ever since they started. Then they switched it to the smile design. When the flat colourful trend started getting popular around 2009, they started advertising with the new logo. This was one of my favourite commercials by them from 2009, it brings back nice memories:
