Written By: John Titor on 01/03/18 at 12:15 pm

Some examples

2001 first half felt completely different than the second half
2008 same as 2001

2001 & 2008.

2003, 2006 & 2009 to a lesser extent.

Yeah, I remember the first half of 2003 still had a vague Y2K era feel to it that seemed to disappear after the summer.
Early 2006 felt virtually identical to 2005, but the second half felt different, kind of darker in a sense.

Yup, early 2003 was more Y2K while late 2003 was just core 2000s.

no way lol as soon as Fall 2001 came on the scene the y2k vibe dissapeared even before 9/11 hit the second week.

I would say the classic 2000's  2001-2006  started around the week of the 2001 vmas

2008, 2006, 2001, and 2003. 2005 a bit as well.

Yeah. In terms of kid culture at least, I remember late 2005 feeling like a change from the first half, with My Gym Partner's a Monkey, Camp Lazlo, Ben 10, post-movie Spongebob, etc. honestly coating me in boredom when I watched them unlike 2000-early 2005 kid culture which was more exciting to me.

Some believe it was also a decline for teen/adult culture, with Hurricane Katrina, plus snap rap and emo taking over, things like Myspace, phone overuse, and social media becoming more widespread, and reality TV having a resurgence after dipping slightly the past year.

Late 2001 felt VERY zeitgeist ish, Moreso around December when Xbox and Ps2 were battling it out,  GTA 3 had just come
out I remember it feeling VERY EDGY, and DVDS were so dope.

And 9/11 of course. Plus edgier artists like Avril Lavigne taking over optimistic pre-9/11 boybands.

yeah, even before that tho around the time of the 2001 VMAS I felt the shift that we were entering a new era.

We all know my love affair with the 2001-2002 year, everything was just so new at the time and exciting.
Lots of life experiences , from Romance, adventures even math ...... lol

Yeah 2001 was the transition from the Y2K era. 9/11 marked the end of the mini era. During '01 music turned from bubblegum pop to edgier rock and punk. Pink changed her sound and image from R&B pop to a more edgy pop/rock sound, Avril Lavigne came into the picture, and more rock songs started getting very popular. Things started to get more raw in 2001.

2006 and 2007 felt bi polar to me with exploded AMV's themed after Linkin Park and Three Days Grace. I also experienced my first heartbreak during this era.
