Summer 2008 or Summer 2009?

Summer 2009, of course.  It was absolutely the best summer of my life and no other summer comes close.

Obviously, the summer of 2009. That summer I visited Florida for the first time (I visited Florida again in the summer of 2016)...it was a decent summer.

I have a lot of good memories from that summer. "Knock You Down" by Keri Hilson ft. Kanye West & Ne-Yo was the one of biggest songs of that summer. Everything I hear that song I think back to the summer of '09.

Culturally it's Summer 2008, I mean come on that's a no brainer with what transpired come Fall of that year. Summer 2009 wasn't the last of the 00's or first of the 10's, it was just a transitional period culturally.

I would agree with this.  Summer 2008 was definitely an '00s summer, if that makes any sense at all.  '09 wasn't yet it still wasn't quite '10s in my opinion.  It was a unique era that bridged the gap between the two decades.

Summer of 2008 of course was the last cultural summer of the late 2000s. Now if we're talking about the general classic 2000s then I would say summer of 2005 was the last summer.

The summer of 2008 was a late 2000s summer but had some little hints of what the 2010s will bring. But when fall came we were fully immersed into 2010s culture.

They all turn into arguments between people like Slim95 who think that 2010s culture had fully arrived by late 2008 (and in fact today is indistinguishable from late 2008) and people who think it took until 2011 or 2012 for the 00s to completely fade away. As somebody who considers that era one of the defining eras of my life, it’s a pet peeve of pine that so many people think that today is no different from late 2008. Even Slim95 would be surprised how much 00s stuff was still around even in early 2009, even though he doesn’t remember any of it and sees that as exactly the same as today.

Summer 2009 felt so weird

all of the classic 2000s stores were gone, Toonami was off the air, the economy collapsed (and upbeat music was on the radio while this was happening)
Myspace was being phased out, Aim was dying, everything about that summer seemed ughh

Virgin Megastore was also dead

The only real 2000s thing that I Remember was 106 & Park being on the air in 2009

I think you might be onto something here. I'd actually go a step further and say the early 2010s started in 2004 when Obama gave his speech at the 2004 DNC and it was cemented in everyone's minds that he will be president. Facebook also came out that year and everyone was on it. That settles it, the early 2010s started in 2004 and the early 2000s started in 1993. You can't argue with facts.

I was in elementary school from late 2007 to early 2013. 2009, 2010, & 2011 was homologous to me, even though I noticed iPad and tablet commercials spawning around Spring 2010. I can't personally say the introduction of iPads started 2010s culture. Technology isn't the best way to decipher eras. 2007 was the late classic 2000s year. 2009 felt like the early 2010s, especially with Obama, but early 2010s culture didn't truly peak until 2010-2011. 2009 was still lacking many aspects of 2010s culture that weren't present until 2010 or 2011.

Looking at your avatar and banner I thought you were Eazy-E-1995 for a second!

Dundee (don't know how long he's been on this site) kinda reminds me of the younger brother of him tho.

Apparently Eric visited this site while I was gone so unfortunately I missed him, but I'm about to take off this site again because I'm getting close to Spring Break and finals soon. It's only early March but still with my rigorous schedule there's a s**t ton of information that's impossible to cram in 1 week.

Damn, I forgot about this. Yeah the very earliest signs of early 2010’s culture was in 1994. I remember back in 2002 someone asked if I had a Snapchat because everyone was using it. Then the late 2006 shift came and changed everything.  Here’s how I’d break it up:

January 1st 1990-April 30th 1994: The true 90’s
March 1st 1994-August 31st 2006: Early 2010’s
September 1st 2006-present: Late 2010’s/early 2020’s

You're right. Yeah, the mid-2020's started on November 9th, 2016. So everything since then is 100% mid-2020's. There were signs of mid-2020's culture as early as 2012 though. Contrary to popular belief, December 21st, 2012 was not the end of the world, it was the end of core early 2010's culture. So here's my updated version:

September 1st 2006-December 20th 2012: Early 2010's
December 21st 2012-November 8th 2016: Transition from early 2010's to mid-2020's
November 9th 2016-TBD: Mid-2020's

Chronologically, summer of 2009.

Politically/culturally/economically, the summer of 2008.

I pretty much consider 2009-2010 (and to a lesser extent '08 and '11) as a post-00's/pre-10's era.

Yes the solar eclipse brought us into the mid-2020s. Before that, everything was the same as 2008, but after it was over we were clearly in mid-2020s culture. You could feel the culture transitioning from late 2000s to mid-2020s as the eclipse was happening.

Now that raises an important question: was the summer of 2017 the last summer of the late 2000s or the first summer of the mid-2020s?

As for the other stuff, that's correct. The summer of 2017 was a transition from late 2000's to mid-2020's. By August 21st, 2017, we were 100% in mid-2020's culture.

You are the one who always starts it.

Don't say that, you're "verbally insulting" him ::).

(You're 100% correct.)

You are the one who always starts it.

Incorrect, your statement should have said "you are the one who always starts making statements I disagree with in relevent threads and posts started by other members and I get pissed and red-faced about it because I make too big of a deal over decadeology and cultural shifts".  ;)

I'm the only one who isn't trolling here. All of the rest of you are spamming the OP's thread and it's not needed.
