Subject: Worst Summers of the 2000's

Written By: John Titor on 04/01/18 at 3:17 pm

We already have a best summers thread, what is the worst summers?

Here is my countdown

3)  2001- That summer dragged on and it felt like it was never ending, Things WERE SOOOOOOOOOOO slowwww,
Ironically things PICKED UP QUICK as soon as the fall arrived and things were very fast paced and the 2000s culture
had arrived. The duality between 2001's first half and second is insane.

2)  2007- Huge dip in quality from the pervious summer, Chris beniot killed his family, Myspace was starting to show
cracks due to facebook, King of Queens and Sopranos ended.

1) 2009-  Not much has to be said why, I am sure you ALL know why

Summers 2004 and 2005 are the only summers I ever disliked. Summer is my favourite season, something fun always happens.

2005 is my favorite summer of all time

In 2004 I moved cities. I was 11 and didn't have any friends at my new city yet so I spent it watching TV mostly. In 2005 my twin sisters were born in August which I was happy about but one was born with severe disabilities and spent the month in an incubator and my other sister also developed a high fever and was hospitalized. I thought both of them were gonna die.  :\'(

I didn't really hate any summer of the 2000s, since I was still an innocent child at the time. Hell, my favorite summer of all time came from 2007, when I went to summer camp with my friend for the first time. My least favorite summer was 2012 because I was bullied often and I picked some fights at the time. It was horrible to me.

Me neither; the same can be said about earlier summers of my life.

However, there were a few not-so-great moments. For example, in 2004 I was just coming off my worst academic semester (it was super-challenging) and I sought guidance to get onto the right track. (But that didn't overshadow all the good times that I had elsewhere in my life.) And in 2009 I was desperately seeking employment for much of the year (including the summer) but came up empty; still, I had positive moments in my life at the time.

I was bullied/picked on by certain kids at summer camps as well, which for me was late 80s/early 90s. It might have had to do with my reluctance to go all the way into the pool because I was deathly afraid to go underwater. I went to day camp each year from 1988 through 1990 and a week-long camp in '91.

Glad you enjoyed 'em. O0 I watched White chicks on TV about three years or so later.

Like I said, it wasn't a bad summer for me; it's just that I was going through a period of time when I needed some guidance/direction.

I went to a day camp between 2009 to 2016. But by the time I went to that camp in 2012, it was a pain in the ass because of all the bullying and the counselors that treated the campers like children. By 2015, they understood how I felt because they were nearly the same age as me.

2002 for me. I had to go to my great aunt's house who was also the town babysitter while my parents were at work. And I just couldn't get along with some of the kids over there.  :P

For me, the worst summer for me would have to be the summer of 2009.

I had my first panic attack ever right around the end of my sixth grade school year. I had a rage of them that summer, and if you never had a panic attack you don't realize how utterly terrifying they are.

Also, the H1N1 pandemic paranoia was around too. I got sick with the flu that year, and I was bedridden for about two to three weeks. I honestly thought I caught the virus myself-- I was so depressed in bed.

That and with talks of the global recession still going around, and the King of Pop's death too made for a depressing summer in my household.

The year after would prove to be different though. In 2010, I had a pretty rad summer.  :D :)

Summer 2008 was my worst because it was the only summer I didn't go on vacation or do much. Our entire house got renovated that year and my sister was born in August (which was a good thing) but with my mom being pregnant we couldn't do as much as other summers. Summer 2008 also seemed to be the first full summer television felt very late 2000's like with all the core 2000's shows already being over since the year before. 2008 was like the death of my childhood and the timing of that is funny because 2008 was a very transitional year culturally too.  Summer 2009 was much better for me. The summers of 2002, 2004, and 2006 were my favorite of the 00's, all the even numbered summers I was in elementary school!

2006 - Nothing really worth remembering
2003 - June was good but July and August were terrible. After returning to California after spending most of June visiting family in Georgia, I just had one thing go wrong after another. This actually lasted until December.
2001 - I was on deployment with my ship in a hot part of the world.
2009 - started the separation process with my now ex wife, which paid off in the end.

Now best summers:
2000 - good music, good memories, always going out to clubs and meeting women
2004 - road trip to Northern California, visited Seattle and Vancouver a few days after returning from NorCal, bought a condo
2005 - good music, good movies, enjoying the single life before meeting my to be ex wife that I separated with in 2009
2008 - living in Japan and visiited Georgia

Neutral
2002 - wasn't bad, but nothing really special either. September was actually good, which is a rare case.
2007 - same as 2002. The fall and holiday season was actually better

2001 and 2007.

In the summer of 2001, I met a guy at summer camp who I developed an extreme crush on (though I wouldn't have admitted that it was a crush at the time), but he lived three hours away and after camp was over I couldn't see him.  This sent me spiraling into a severe depression.

2007 was my last summer before graduating college but because my parents were so strict, I wasn't allowed to do the kind of things that normal college students did over the summer.  I had developed an extreme case of FOMO at that point and that sent me into a pretty significant depression.  I was also starting to get a lot of anxiety about finding a job after college by that point, especially since recession was starting to enter the conversation.

Well 2005 used to be awesome for me. Especially when I went down to Virginia to visit my relatives for my grandpa's funeral. Even though I don't remember the funeral because I was sleeping during it, I still had a blast in the hotel that me and my family stayed in.

Wow, worst summer of the 2000's? I don't think I can answer that question. I was a kid for the whole 2000's so every summer of that decade rocked for me. If I were really to pick the worst summer though? I can't think of any. From the 2010's? My worst summer would have been 2014. I came out of 10th grade but there wasn't much to do at my house. All of my favorite shows had been cancelled at that point, but I did have a little fun traveling. Still my least favorite summer. Best summer of the 2000's? That would be 2007! I came out of third grade and there were so many amazing shows to watch like Camp Lazlo, My Gym Partner's a Monkey, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, SpongeBob, El Tigre and Wayside. Plus I got to ride on in a limo with my family, and me and my brother would draw our own TV Cartoon idea, we developed the characters, drew books and got inspiration from the shows we saw on TV! Also we had a NASCAR game and SpongeBob: Lights, Camera, Pants for our GameCube and I remember playing that a lot. There were a lot of TV movies I remember watching like The Last Day of Summer. Plus, I remember eating lots of fun snacks like popsicles, ice cream sandwiches, pop tarts, cereal straws, etc. Best summer ever!!! :)

Come to think of it, I do have one good memory of the summer of 2006 which was when Italy won the World Cup defeating France (and that was the game of the famous headbutting incident).

I honestly don't have the worst summer of the 2000's for two reasons:

1. I was only either a baby, toddler or kid so all the summers will naturally seem good to me.

2. I didn't fully experience the 2000's.

However, the best summer of the 2000's in terms of my personal life was definitely summer 2009.

I can't pick a bad one either, but if I had to select a "least favorite" it might be 2008 since I didn't have a whole lot going on. I had partaken in the graduation ceremony at CSU Northridge that year, but had to go back to fulfill a certain class requirement. So it was a wave of discontent for me, in a way, knowing that I had to return to school after supposedly graduating.

I would say 2006 and 2008, both of those summers felt kind of dull IMO.
