Subject: Summer 2008 vs Summer 2009

Written By: John Titor on 08/10/18 at 1:00 pm

Thoughts on the change from one summer to another?
To me Summer 2008 felt like the final time we would ever feel the classic 2000's
forever. By the time Summer 2009 came all of our stores were gone (as well as a lot of tv shows)
Summer 2009 had this bitter sweet feeling, things felt very epilogue like while having cheery songs
like I got a feeling on the radio.

Summer 2008 was much darker and stressful in my opinion.  High gas prices, Peak Oil fear, Bush fatigue, and the looming financial crisis gave the summer of 2008 an almost apocalyptic vibe, as if we were on the precipice of complete societal collapse.

I liked the summer of 2009 much better.  It was a very memorable summer in my personal life.  While the economy was awful, there was a sliver of optimism with Obama being President and a general feeling that we had avoided a second Great Depression.  2009 had better music than 2008 in my opinion.

Summer of 2009 was darker because of both the recession and the swine flu. Summer 2008 didn't have these things yet.

Ah yeah I think the recession in Canada got a bit of a later start compared to the US.  2008 was worse than 2009 for the recession in the US.

I had forgotten about swine flu.  Like Ebola in 2014, swine flu turned out to be a big media hypefest for nothing.

Both were great. Summer 2008 is more memorable though. The Beijing Olympics were terrific! And yes, economic collapse was not on the tongues of most people back then.

Summer 2008 is like the only part of the mid-late 2000s I'm actually slightly nostalgic for ;D

Summer 2009 felt like we just walked thru a nuclear bomb (pop culture wise)
everything was destroyed and empty

People and their weirdass descriptions ::)

Summer of 2008 was pretty great on a personal side, I went on a London trip for the first time and despite being exhausting I had great moments of cultural discovery.

Don't remember what I did in the summer of 2009 besides a few shops, it was also total Black-Eyed Peas domination back then which I was not a fan of, especially the annoying "Boom Boom Pow" was everywhere.

I found "I Gotta Feeling" that "Tonight's Gonna Be A GOOD NIGHT!!!!" to be way more annoying than "Boom Boom Pow". My 8th grade math teacher and other people I knew at events played that song every single day and I got so tired of it.  8-P

"Boom Boom Pow" was really cool with a catchy beat and it was the precursor to the electropop era of music. "Boom Boom Pow" felt kind of futuristic IMO.

"I'm so 3008, you so 2000-and-late" gave everyone that vibe that the 2000's were about to end and the 2010's were on its way really fast!

Yeah, I'd have to go with the summer of 2008. Graduating college during 2009 at the peak of the Great Recession and having to look for a job was not too cool.

Neither! 2008/9 were both depressing years with the recession and all, the pop culture from that time also felt really empty. As soon as 2010 came, things got 100% better.

Personal-wise, summer of 2009 was one of the best summers of my life. I barely remember the summer of 2008 tbh.

Nah, it gave everyone that vibe that we were in the late 2000's.  :) ;D ;D

I say summer of 08 since it was the the year I went to Six Flags, Got the Nokia xpress phone, watching Jeff Hardy and Triple H on Smackdown, celebrating my 12th birthday at my oldest sister house and listening to my cousins ipod suffle. I kinda enjoyed 09 as well, but everything felt different to since it was the summer MJ died, Cartoon Network went full on reality that year and WWE felt different because while the pg era started in there 08 all the pay-per views from the Ruthless Aggression and Attitude era were virtually gone by that summer. Summer of 09 was also when you saw the rise of Drake with Best I ever had.

Summer 2008 was bittersweet we all knew it was the end of the 2000s

Summer 2008 definitely had a happy and uplifting vibe, as Summer Olympics summers usually have. One thing I remember about summer 2009 was listening to Michael Jackson songs.
