Subject: 2010, a 2000s year?

Written By: Dundee on 08/27/18 at 1:15 am

I've seen this mistake being made plentiful of times on YouTube and in '00s music playlists on like Apple Music where people would put hit songs of 2010 (and not even 2009 leftovers, songs geniunely released in any part of the year) amidst the likes of "Bye Bye Bye", "Hey Ya" and "Complicated". But it's the inclusion of 2010 stuff in the CNN documentary recently that got me thinking: Do people actually believe the year 2010 belong among the noughties? ???

What do you think of this? Are there some grounds of truth about this or is it totally nonsense?

It's nonsense. 2010 is 2010s, it does not need to be more complicated than that :P

The 2000s is Nokia brick phones, IPods, George Bush, MySpace and nu-metal, not iPhones, Androids, Facebook, Twitter, HDTVs and electropop etc. Other than a few leftovers 2010 felt incredibly new-school and not 2000s.

No, just people not old enough reaching to pretend to themselves they experienced the real 2000s

Its 2010s. However, its not distinctly 2000s nor 2010s in culture, but probably leans slightly to the latter.

Yeah, it may have some 2000s hangovers. This is getting me a little conflicted though considering I got into a film that came out in the 2010s. However, there have been some cultural changes in the 2010s that are totally foreign to the 2000s, ones that I resent. This mostly applies to music and fashion.

2010 may still have had some of the dark feel of the 2000s but it would have started to make a name for itself, either because it's a new decade numerically or because people made an effort to give the 2010s a name for itself, tabula rasa, I'm not sure.

Nah. Like the first years of any other decade, it had lots of leftovers from the previous decade (cause trends don't suddenly die when a new decade starts) and most 2000s stuff were still relevant but it's still a 2010s year since it's literally in the 2010s.

Also, prepare for this thread to get locked in 5 minutes cause any interesting discussion is considered decadeology even though this whole site is literally built on decadeology 🙄.

Not sure if you would agree with me, but here is what I think:

"60's culture" began in 1962
"70's culture" began in 1971
"80's culture" began in 1981
"90's culture" began in 1991
"2000's culture" began in 2001
"2010's culture" began in 2012

Yeah, that makes sense. Imo, 2012-2013 is the first period that felt completely detached from the 2000s.

I am really not sure if you could say that about 2012.

In my opinion, 2012 was the first year that leaned more 2010's and 2013 was the first core 2010's year.

Once again the people who think 2010s is a 2000s year are the ones reaching and also the ones who were like 3 years old in 2009 lol  ( Hey guys  I lived in the 2000s as well I have perfect memory) lol

2010 had a few late 2000s hold overs, but the late 2000s is hardly considered what the classic core 2000s was really like , Someone on here even went as to far as say they were in pre school in 2009 and have perfect memories of the culture of the 2000s LMAO some of the reaching on here is unreal

Not trying to be ageist on here, but 2010 felt very far removed from the 2000s
