Subject: Interesting article on MSN, 2009 vs 2019 technology

Written By: 2000s Nostalgiaist on 01/28/19 at 4:51 am

I am really surprised to see something like this in the mainstream!

Edit: I've read the article and I must say, it's not exactly clear what is 2009 and what is 2019. It's not as good of an article as what I was expecting. There is no commentary either, very lazy journalism.

39 and 40 are more 1999 vs. 2009 (iMac vs. a newer PC which I had already used beginning around 2006). I could have also had shown stuff like YouTube of then vs. now (and its REAL 2019 look is under its StudioBeta as of this post), iTunes vs. Spotify, UltraViolet (came out in 2010, but close enough) vs. today's Netflix, or bulky fitness equipment from a decade ago vs. interactive mirrors.

Still, I feel that 1999-2009 is a much bigger leap than this decade. Dreamcast vs. PS3 trumps PS3-PS4, as does digital downloads vs. CDs (which sales peaked in '99). Even early HDTVs had rather large projection units compared to the large flatscreens of a decade later.

It's a click-bait article that is thrown together rapidly, there are tons of them on MSN sadly ;D. At least
it's not one where you have click a new page each time to go to a next item in the list. I hate bringing ad revenue on lazy garbage like that!

That's more 2009 vs 2018 tbh. Let's wait until the year ends. Who knows we might have foldable phones and TV's or something. Also I didn't see things like electric cars or smartphone specs in there.

Among mainstream technologies 1999-09 gap is wider, but in advanced terms some tech like VR, drones, 3D printers in 2009 only existed in prototypes

Yeah. 1999 to 2009 was a bigger gap for sure because of the internet and mobile phones. In fact that's probably why it looks like a bigger gap because the internet and mobile technology changed everything. But 2009 to 2019 is no slouch for changes in tech either. Better resolutions, processors, designs on smartphones and TVs, VR, AR, smart technology, AI, etc. It was also a big leap in tech. But '99 - '09 would have to take the prize. 2009 - 2019 was more about advancements of current technologies and implementation of new technology in its primitive stages. Just wait until the 2020s when these new technologies that are primitive now become mainstream, then we will see another big leap. But it's honestly hard to beat the change from '99 - '09 and '89 to '99 I'm pretty convinced we will never see a change as big ever again.
