Subject: 2006-2007 school year

Written By: mc98 on 10/07/19 at 12:59 pm

OMG ITS THE LATE 2006 SHIFT1!!!1!1!

Just kidding. However, there was a small change throughout the school year that felt a little different from the previous 00s years.

This year was more tech focused than any other 00s years like the introduction of the iPhone, the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, YouTube videos and the peak of MySpace. I remember it was the beginning of the Hannah Montana/High School Musical era of Disney Channel.

There are songs that sound very new and entered the late 2000s territory like Sexyback, My Love, Glamorous, Fergalicious, Smack That, The Sweet Escape, Promiscuous, Say It Right, Buy U a Drank, Maneater, Umbrella, Cupid’s Chokehold, Give It To Me, Ice Box, and Irreplaceable.

However, there were still songs that still sounded core/mid 00s like Chasing Cars, Runaway Love, Walk It Out, Don’t Matter, It’s Not Over, Girlfriend, What Goes Around Comes Around, Beautiful Liar, and Lips Of An Angel. This was also the peak year for Emo with songs from My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy. Also, Emo songs like It Ends Tonight, Face Down, and Bury Me.

Imo, this was one of the best school years that I had experience in the 2000s. It is on par with 2005-2006 and 2007-2008, those were my favorite school years.

My fav school year was 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 school year. But I feel like 2006-2007 was still the bulk of 2000’s culture if you ask me. Chicken noodle soup and walk it out were big, Runaway Love, Ciara, 50 cent, My Chemical Romance and many more... 2007-2008 felt like the last 2000’s school year in my opinion. Maybe it’s because I was in middle school in the summer of 08 and it felt different... I know the Iphone came out summer of 2007 so I associate it more so with 2007-2008 which is like the last 2000’s year to me.

A lot of people say the shift was in 2006 - 2007 school year but I say the 2005 - 2006 school year. I may be a bit biased though because that's when I moved cities and when I first heard of YouTube (spring of 2006). But that was also the school year when Highschool Musical came out and when that movie came out it really didn't feel like the classic 2000s anymore.

I feel like this is when the shift in Kid culture began for people our age (maybe like 1994-1997) but not core 2000’s culture. 2005-2006 school year brought on Flavor of Love, Rock of Love, “We Belong Together”-Mariah Carey, Pussy cat dolls,  Ciara, Akon, Gwen Stefani, “Check On it”- Beyonce. etc. We were becoming older and the kid culture that we were used to was changing and the sound of music was changing a lot. I was in third grade in 2005 and it felt so different compared to K-2nd grade (2002-2004), maybe because we had two campuses at my school. One for the k-2nd graders and another for 3rd-8th graders.

Idk for me 2000-2005 embodies true 2000’s identity. I hate when people associate the 2000’s with post 2005 due to the technology and YouTube. It’s almost like my childhood took place in 2 different worlds.
