Subject: Which era does the 2009-2010 school year belong?

Written By: mc98 on 04/11/20 at 9:05 pm

Looking at the 2008-2009 thread, I'm honestly quite surprised that the majority consensus was culturally late 2000s instead of transitional. Makes me wonder on how they view the school year after, the 2009-2010 school year. This period was more early 2010s with a lingering 2000s feel.

Late 2008/early 2009 strongly belongs to the late 2000s meanwhile, late 2009/early 2010 definitely leans early 2010s (especially the 2010 part). Now, 2009 itself is what I would consider transitional but, I still believe it slightly leans 2000s other than 2010s.

Early 2010s, WITHOUT QUESTION!! Pretty much every one agrees with this... This was the first 2010s school year and 2019-2020 was THE LAST!!! :o :o :o

Didn’t feel like it to me tbh, like I’m sorry but there was so much sheesh from the 2000s that was still lingering like movies, tv shows, music and technology I barley noticed it as much as this forum wants me to believe

The school year did have late 2000s carryovers like slider/flip phones, but the early 2010s influences were already apparent: electropop, silly bandz, and HD television.

Silly bandz, electro pop and HD TV was already a thing by the late 2000s so that’s probably why I barley noticed it. I probably didn’t consider most of those things 2010s either at that time so that could be it

This one is strictly early 2010's. All traces of late 00's culture were gone by then.

Can the two years be interlinked to the eras?

I’m considering all these threads to be also referring to college years and just periods on their own as well.

This felt like the first year of the 2010s.

Even though this school year leaned early 2010s, this was probably the last one to have a visible 2000s vibe before the early 2010s completely took over the next school year.
