Subject: What Year Was Better: 2004 OR 2005?

Written By: Videl Satan on 06/14/20 at 7:15 pm

And why?

I'm going with 2004 by a hair.  2004 had much better movies and video games with the movies Spider-Man 2, Shrek 2, Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban and National Treasure all coming out in 2004.  I was also greatly enjoying what was Cartoon Network's last great year even though the network was past it's prime by this point.

Plus, most of 2004 was still a pre-Boston Red Sox world where the Red Sox would sadly win their first World Series the first 86 years in the worst way possible. :\'( :\'( :\'( :\'( :\'( :\'( :\'(

Both good years for me but I went with 2004. Mainly because my life was very eventful and the music, video games and pop culture was awesome. The summer of 2005 was also good for me.

It was very close but I went with 2004. I liked 2005 better movie-wise, but 2004 by a hair music wise. Personal life they were both great. News events wise they didn't seem so bad compared to now. Other than the tsunami in South Asia or Hurricane Katrina, I don't really recall that many tragic events.

2004, no question. Spongebob was still great in its third season and the subsequent movie is a classic. The year also had amazing games like Halo 2 and GTA: SA. I also like more of the pop songs from 2004 than 2005.

2004. It’s a largely transitional year.

It’s the last year that cartoons such as Johnny Bravo, Hey Arnold, and Rugrats released new episodes. It was the last year of the CN Powerhouse era. It was also in this year that broadband overtook dial-up.

It’s a year that contains two eras in one, and that’s why 2004 holds a special place in my childhood memories.

But the leap year day occurred before coronavirus took real hold, especially in the UK.

2004 hands down.

The the first half  fashion, pop music, movies and culture seemed to have a slightly more organic, less fabricated feel like that felt like an extension of 2003 and the last gasp of the early 2000s.

The mid 2000s started in the second half but regardless of what you feel about that era it was exciting to try myspace or early social media, get an ipod, and social awareness was starting to get big. It wasn't tainted with some of the negative things people associated with 2005 and 2006 yet.

I think 2005 felt much more similar as year overall and not as interesting.

In 2005, the Pope passed away and London suffered terrorist bombings.

2005 was more eventful, for better or worse:

- Runaway bride
- London bombings
- Jose Canseco and the steroid scandal in MLB
- Michael Jackson trial
- Hurricane Katrina
- YouTube launched
- Terry Schiavo

2005 was still at least 10x better than 2006.

I voted for 2005 just because it was better for me personally than 2004. I was going through a lot of stuff in 2004, whereas I can barely remember 2005.  :D

Emus are solitary birds and do not need an owner.

Britney Spears (who I am a fan of) had a radio comeback during this era. Toxic and Everytime her her two return hits! Her In The Zone album was decent hit.

Britney canceled her tour. Unfortunately, 2004 was the beginning of the unraveling of Britney's mental health, in a downward spiral! I remember there was something really off about her January 2004 Vegas marriage, that lasted for 55 hours. Then came Britney going without her slippers, at a gas station bathroom in July. I suspect there was drugs involved during 2004 in Britney's life!

You could tell she was so exhausted during this era.

As for other things, I loved movies during this era. I think that people dubbed 2004, the last year of the big movie star, like Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, etc, etc. People usually say 2003/2004 was the last era of The Movie Star before the rise of social media and the rise of the Social Media star.

I liked Britney's version of "My Prerogative", not better than Bobby Brown's version but it did add to the 1988 nostalgia.
