Subject: What are the differences between 2000s and 2010s hipsters?

Written By: goodbants on 09/12/20 at 8:10 pm

I don’t remember hipsters in the 2000s but apparently there were. How has hipster evolved over time? Did the hipsters of 2007 dress and act like the hipsters of 2012?

One of the big differences was the obsession with redneck/hick culture in the 2000s was less relevant in the 2010s. A lot of 2000s hipster culture consisted of "ironically" wearing flannel and big belt buckles and drinking PBR.

Hipsters in the original sense don't have that much to do with modern hipsters. Modern hipsters would be what were called "artsy types" back in the 70s

Slight correction. Modern hipsters would be what were called "PRETENTIOUS artsy types" back in the 70s. It is possible to be arty without being pretentious, but modern hipsters don't have a grasp of that.

What exactly is a hipster anymore, I thought it was a weird sub-culture of pretentious young adults in the early 2010s

Nowadays, a hipster is someone whose fashion choices and music interests fall outside the mainstream. Instead of following popular trends, hipsters generally favor alternative lifestyles, progressive politics, and quirky clothing.

Hipster or hepcat, as used in the 1940s, referred to aficionados of jazz, in particular bebop, which became popular.

The 1960s, deriving from hipster, a hippie (sometimes misspelled as hippy) is a member of the counterculture of the 1960s, originally a youth movement that began in the United States during the mid-1960s and spread to other countries around the world. Groovy baby.

The 2002-2005 outfits fit my image of a 2000s hipsters pretty well. Far less distinct than modern hipsters  By the end of the decade, the traditional 2010s hipster outfit had settled in.

There were no hipsters in the 2000s. I only heard of the term come up in the early 2010s.

I don't think they could be skinny jeans, but they do wear them

I remember in the mid-2000's rather than using the word "hipster" I remember boho-chic being described as the fashion of that time.

00s hipsters were practically non existant, maybe not in 08 and 09. The few hipsters back then was probably the same as 10s hipsters.

Hipsters seemed so sad to me. Everything seen through a scrim of irony. Clothing, eyeglasses, décor, all from before their time and all seen with a self-conscious sense of irony. Nostalgic for things they never experienced in the first place. It seemed they had nothing that was truly theirs.
