Subject: The 2000s Will Never Be As Loved As The '90s

Written By: Slim95 on 10/10/20 at 2:31 pm

I love the 2000s, and I grew up in the 2000s, but I'm gonna have to be honest I don't see this decade every being as loved as the '90s... Even 20 years from now the '90s will still be talked about and the 2000s will be lumped in with the rest of the 21st Century decades pretty much.

I feel like the 2000’s are awkward. Some people lump 2000-2004 in with the 90’s and 2005-2009 with more cultural defining things that made the 2000’s. I dis agree with this. I feel like the 2000-20034 period had a lot
of 2000’s defining moments that differentiates itself from the late 90’s. although I’m starting to slowly see the 2000’s being more acknowledged.

The 2000's can be split right down the middle. 2000 might have been an extension of Late-90's/Y2K culture, but 2001-2004 was pure 00's in their own right. I call this the "bling" era of materialism and iconic movies such as Mean Girls. Orange County was the epicenter of the culture and hence the popularity of the TV series "The OC". 2005-2008 was also 00's but with a different flavor. This was the emo/MySpace era with iconic movies like Superbad, and TV shows like The Office. 2009 is more associated culturally with the Early 2010's.

In my opinion, 2001 - 2004 best defines the 2000s rather than the latter half.

I don't know why people do this. 2000 to 2004 was nothing like the 90s.

Exactly. That was the 2000s. '90s are totally different.

I can see how 2000 had that 1999 feel, but how can 2004 be exactly like 1995? It wasn't. They were two completely different times. I like both the 1990s and the 2000s but the 90s and 2005 - 2008 have a special place in my heart. ❤

Yes but more like 1999 had that 2000 feel.

I strongly agree with this, the early 2000s felt nothing like the 90s, even 1998 felt very different from the early 2000s. Maybe 1999 and 2000 were similar but that is it.

I've seen people group 1997/1998 with 2003 and that just baffles my mind, I have a feeling this comes from people who don't actually remember the 1990s.

I remember the 1990s very well and the year of 1997 and 1998 are totally different to the year of 2003, firstly think domestic Internet.

As I've said before 2000 is the last year that felt similar to 1997-1999. From 2001 it had a different vibe, and not just because of 9/11.

I feel like the grouping of the late 90s and the 00s all the way up until even 2003 is likely a leftover remnant of that time period when the 00s were seen as "bad" while the 90s were seen in an increasingly positive light. This gave rise to some fans of the early 00s trying to lump that era in with the 90s so as I gain "legitimacy" in an era that tended to view one decade as much better than the other.

You are right because the 2000s was forgettable for most people, culturally speaking. It didn't have the same push for saving planet Earth, racial justice and LGBT+ rights that the 2010s had, and didn't bring anything new and memorable to the table unlike the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

At the time the Early 00's felt dark and depressing mainly because of 9/11 and the Iraq War. I'd gladly go back to it over 2020 though. It might be the same people who still want to lump 2020 with the Late 2010's, when in reality that era is now gone.

True, the 2000's didn't have anything unique, unless you count crunk, emo, or ringtone rap and reality TV as unique. It did have some iconic movie series like Harry Potter, LOTR, and Tobie Maguire's Spiderman.

Also GWB seems like the forgotten president, even though back then people felt the same way about him that they feel about Trump now, but because of Trump's power and influence whether you love him or hate him the feeling is stronger for him than it was for GWB.

A lot of this isn't much to people's tastes sadly.
