Subject: 2009 is weird. It's a perfect mix between the cultural late 00s and early 10s.

These music videos sums it up well. They clearly don't seem to completely belong to either the simpler, darker, more r&b oriented late 00s(2006-2008) or the club music and loud electro dominated early 10s(2010-2012). It feels like a 50/50 year culturally(not politically so obama and the recession are irrelevant in this discussion).

You also have some songs that feel like they lean a lot more towards the cultural late 00s

and others that feel like proto early 10 songs

Myspace was still popular but facebook was really taking off. Rock was having it's final hurrah whilst we saw the first few sparks of mainstream EDM. R&B wasn't quite dead yet but had to adopt electro elements to stay alive. Runescape was popular but minecraft classic was released. Iphone hadn't taken off yet but was picking up traction.

Electronic R&B, pop and rap really were the definite sounds of that cusp late 2000s/early 2010s period. There were songs like "Best I Ever Had" by Drake and "Right Round" by Flo Rida, and of course, the domination of Lady Gaga and The Black Eyed Peas (in 2009, mostly).

2009 is still, by-and-large, a culturally 2000s year with major hints of 2010s culture.

Electronic R&B represents this year the best since r&b is a late 00s thing and electronica is early 10s.

I agree that 2009 leans culturally late 00s. It only started to really feel like the early 10s from autumn that year. You have WAY too many songs that year that would sound completely out of place in the early 10s like "Love Story", "Broken Strings" and "The Fear" but everyone ignores that and pretends electropop is the only thing that existed that year(and late 00s electropop sounds radically different compared to e-pop style in 2011-2013 anyway).
