Subject: What were the defining songs of 2005, 2006, and 2007?

Written By: doublejm1 on 01/07/22 at 3:56 pm

In my opinion, they could be any of the following:

2005

We Belong Together
Gold Digger
Mr. Brightside
Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Hollaback Girl
My Humps
Pon de Replay
Candy Shop

2006

SexyBack
Promiscuous
Bad Day
You're Beautiful
The Black Parade
Hips Don't Lie

2007
Apologize
The Way I Are
Buy U A Drank
Low
Ayo Technology
Stronger

Do you agree?

Yes, sounds about right. Only Low by Flo-Rida I associate it with 2008 more. Also for 2007 I would add Umbrella and Crank Dat (Soulja Boy)

So, the songs that best encapsulate how music sounded each year?

2005: Candy Shop
2006: Check On It
2007: I Wanna Love You

So true! How could I forget those two?

For 2005, I should have also added "Run It" by Chris Brown.

Maybe, although that is closer to 2006. For 2005 I would add Feel Good Inc, Don't Cha, and Since You've Been Gone.

Feel Good, Inc. is definitely one of my favorites. The beat is so unique -- much like 2006's "Say it Right" by Nelly Furtado.

Yes it is. I think it's about as unique as SexyBack. I've always like the Gorillaz. They've always made good music, even in recent years. They've always had more of a cult following, and "Feel Good Inc." was really their only major hit.
