Subject: 2001 - 2002 School Year - Year of COMEBACKS in Entertainment

Written By: Starro23 on 07/19/22 at 2:51 pm

Something that is often forgotten about this school year is that it had so many damn comebacks in entertainment.
listed below are just a few.

Fall 2001  - Jordan returns to the NBA after retiring in 1998

I still don't get this "school year" thing as a measurement of culture.  If it is meant to measure changes that happened during the dovetail of the last half of one year and the first half of another it comes across as juvenile and lacking in gravitas. For example, JFK was assassinated in November 1963 and The Beatles came to America in February 1964, cataclysmically setting off movement known as "The Sixties". Are we to say that this is product of the 1963-1964 "school year"? It just doesn't seem like a big enough description. Likewise the cultural 80s began on the dot in 1981, after the election of Ronald Reagan in November 1980 and the murder of John Lennon in December, 1980. Is this a product of the 1980-1981 "school year"? I mean, I suppose that's when it happened but but it hardly seems an apt descriptor.

So with the school year starting in September and ending in the following year in July, you cannot include any events that happen in August of the two years concerned?

The school year here begins now in August in many places. An awful idea, but nonetheless it does. It ends in June. So apparently July is the only real month not part of the "school year".

For that particular school year in the US, it revolves around 9/11 since in most places the school year begins either in early September (right after Labor Day weekend) or a few weeks earlier in August. Things didn't have a return to normal vibe until around the time Spider-Man was released.

You kind of prove my point. Does the school year revolve around 9/11 or is 9/11 measured by the school year?
