Subject: I call the election

Written By: MaxwellSmart on 11/03/04 at 2:12 am

It's 12:48 AM EST.  I confidently predict a Bush victory.  He will win Ohio.

I'm afraid the Republican honeymoon will be short and end abruptly.  The Republicans will self-destruct in the next couple of years.  They will set themselves on fire with their own matches.  Hear me now and believe me later!

Instead of calling for solidarity, Republicans politicians need to start paying restitution to this country for the damage they did in the past four years.  If they don't shape up, American will fracture.

It doesn't look good.  The Dems and others are going to have to mobilize and remind them what a
close margin they won on.  This election is not a mandate, it is a severe division.  Bipartisanship
has not been practiced during this administration, I don't see that changing without a lot of
active participation.

Next time, the Democrats need to go back to a Southern candidate, i.e. Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter.  I also think the economy just has to go down the tubes like the recession in the early 1990s for the United States to be willing to put a Democrat back in the Oval Office.  That recession hit America so hard back in 1991, with people being laid off left and right, that enough folks were willing to elect Bill Clinton.  If people are hit hard in their wallet, then they'll go crying to the Democrats, begging them to the put the country back together.

Otherwise it appears that the Republicans will always be the favorites in America, and the Democrats tend to consistently come off as the pansy underdogs that promote polarizing social issues like gay marriage, abortion, affirmative action, etc, etc.  Bill Clinton usually skillfully avoided those political smokescreens and stuck with the economy, hence his success.  Even in 2000, the incumbent Al Gore had 8 years of success with Bill Clinton, but Gore still came off as this flimsy underdog that had to defend himself rather then ask the moronic challenger George W. Bush to prove himself.  At it's core, this seems to be a culture war (with code words like "stem cell research" thrown around) more then an honest to goodness difference in political ideology.  And the Repubs will nearly always win that culture war with mainstream White America.
