By hate I mean would you like to see them get in a car accident or get cancer or something?  I say no. Hate's a waste of time, and besides people who deserve it are miserable enough already.  As for dislike, well there's a lot, particulary Bush, Cheney, Terrorists, High Criminals, and Oil Barons.

I still feel hate for some people even though I know it's self-destructive.  It's one of the long term issues I gotta work on.

Yes there are people out there that I hate. Mainly mass-murders, child molesters, and brutal leaders. I like almost everybody, but I hate the scum of society.

Nah, you can't really hate Bush. He's really just a symbol - he's no Richard Nixon. However I can hate the system of which he's a part. The thing is, hatred always seems to me to be an irrational reaction, an emotion. Its like love and joy in so much as you can only feel it for a short period of time and should you hold onto your hatred for too long you'll find you have no room for any other emotion. It's what we here in the UK would call a bollox way to live your life. Forgive maybe, forget nope, but don;t let hatred rule your life.

To me, hate is a temporary viseral reaction to a very serious personal injury.  I felt it for the man who molested my daughter for example, when my thoughts turned to my 10 inch french knife and his "private parts" the night it happened, but I no longer hate him.

There are those I hold in contempt for things they have done that didn't effect me personally, like Henry Kissinger (want to talk terrorist and mass murderer he is one),  or Lil' Georgie & Co. and others.  I do hope they are touched by Cat's "three fold" rule, or as others have called it karma, but that comes from my sense of justice, not hate.

She has earned my contempt by her words and actions and I'm hoping someday she'll see the light and apologize for all the sh*t she pulled. Highly unlikely, I'm sure, but until then I'll make cracks about her and laugh myself silly over them. It helps with the anger I still feel towards her. :P

She has destroyed any chance I have of playing an active part in the upbringing of my daughter by emigrating against my wishes. She uses my daughter as a weapon to play on my emotions, and uses the state to defraud me of money. Every time I think of her, anger rages inside of me. I'd never hurt her, because that would obviously harm my daughter indirectly, but if I had a chance to repay her for destroying my reason for living, I would. I realise this level of negative emotion isn't healthy, but so far counselling, medication and several other methods have not yet succeeded in getting this monkey off my back. :\'(

My dear Goodsin, this I can understand as a reason for hate.  I count myself very lucky that my X has always encourged both me and my kids to have a close relationship, and has facilitated it by driving one of them at least p[art way to be with me.  I am sorry that you have to bear not being as active in your daughter's life as you would like.  Wish I could help.

Whether hate is unhealthy depends on how/whether we choose to allow it and the emotions that may be attached to it to manifest.  

But, that which is negative in one case may be positive in another.  In regards to hatred of injustice (for example) it is only through keen awareness of our hatred and, more importantly,  in allowing ourselves to nurture and feel the full fury of the passionate emotions attached to that hatred, that we are motivated to effect positive changes.  These passionate emotions are often the same emotions we would label "negative" if attached to hatred for an individual person.  

But, even in this case, the emotions attached to hate are positive passions only if we choose for them to be.  The same range and intensity of passionate emotions that motivate one person to lobby congress or run for office or speak up when others remain silent can, just as easily, motivate another to bomb a building.

I agree 100%.  I loathe some people, but I still respect them as beings.  I don't wish harm on them past them getting their justice and karma.

Thanks Don Carlos, I'm touched. I try not to dwell on these things, I realise hate can consume you. It's rare I discuss it, as I just end up angry and upset. That being said, every time I see a child I am reminded of it...One benefit of my situation is that I have little hatred left to waste on other things! I should also say that, although I stated I dislike many things & people, no-one on this site falls into that category. I may disagree strongly with many views held here, but I don't even dislike the people with those views, just respect them as individuals. I don't remember, before the current reasons, actually feeling hatred for anyone.
