Subject: What if Watergate Happened Today?

Written By: Im Batman on 06/18/05 at 1:32 am

Newspapers would agonize over wether to report it.  To get the story, you'd have to read the British papers.

Democrats would blame Howard Dean that if he had been a little nicer to the Republicans, this wouldn't have happened.

Bob Woodward would come out with a presidential coffee table book called Bush At His Best.

Deep Throat's wife's identity would be revealed by Bob Novak.

The Supreme Court would grant Bush the right to keep his tapes and documents sealed for 200 years.  Cheney would lash out at these activist judges because he asked for the documents to be sealed for 300 years.

John Conyers and Maxine Waters would hold the only congressional inquiry in a run down conference room  at a local Days Inn.

G. Gordon Liddy would be appointed secretary of agriculture by Bush. The terror alert would be raised to orange.

Jaded and lazy pundits would concede that Watergate is a non-story and that these smoking guns usually turn out to be overated.

You also forgot that he would have been granted the Medal of Freedom.

What Bush is doing makes Watergate look like a Sunday Social. It is really ashame that there are no Woodwards, Bernsteins, or Felts to bring these criminals to justice.

That pretty much is happening already. Lynyrd Skynyrd isn't making albums anymore (to my knowledge) but rrock bands such as Green Day and system of a Down have hit songs criticizing the Bush Administration. And I believe that quite a few quotes by dubya will be remembered thirty years from now.

Yes, Im Batman got it right.  The Dems shied away from the Iran/Contra scandle even though the abuses of power and viloations of both law and Constitution were greater than Watergate.  The cronyism and corruption of this administration are likely to go uninvestigated and swept under the rug by the lap dog media and the cowardly crowd of Dems in Congress.

Batman, it's funny you bring that up.  Here are a few quotes from a book I am reading by Larry King.  He is referring to the way the media would report WWII if it were happening today:

"Good Evening, Ladies & Gentleman.  Welcome to 'Larry King Live'. August 1939.  Today, the Germans marched into Poland.  Now here's Larry."

"Thanks very much.  Good evening, our guest is Adolf Hitler.  Uh, Mr. Chancellor, you were with us a month ago and you said..."

"Nice to see you, Larry, and hello to all your viewers.  Love your show."

"When you were with us a month ago, you said you had no plans, no design beyond the Sudetenland."

"Ve still don't, Larry.  No designs.  It vas the people of Poland who called for us.  The free people of Poland who vished us to take them away from their oppressors.  Here, let me show you zis map."

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Is the Downing Street Memo the blueprint for impeachment?  I don't know.

Should we be asking questions about this?  Absolutely!

If the Republicans and the corportate media sweep Downing Street under the rug to save Bush's ass, then the lessons of Watergate are lost forever.

If that's the case, then we should all be ashamed to be Americans for allowing this usurping or our democracy to happen.

Jay Leno would make bad jokes.....

Bob Woodward would be played by Brad Pitt and Carl Bernstein would played by Tom Hanks in the movie.

Rush Limbaugh, 1938:  It is the Jewish-controlled liberl-elite media slandering Hitler as an anti-semite just for pointing out the facts of how Jewish banker discriminate against Aryan citizens!

Ann Coulter, 1940: If liberal closet-communists like Churchill and Roosevelt would get their heads out of the sand, they would realize most Americans want to to join the Axis with Hitler and Mussolini.  Fascism will make our country strong.  The Bolshevism of the New Deal is what make's all those Americans our there too lazy to work for a living.  Stalin is the real enemy, not Hitler.
