Subject: Bill Clinton for President again

Written By: Meghan88 on 10/23/05 at 11:10 am

Remember the good ol' days, when everyone had a job, the economy was up, there was no fear of using our Social Security, we weren't at war with Iraq, and we were proud to say that Bill Clinton was our President because he knew what he was doing... Yes the man had some moral issues, but altogether he was a great President... If you hate Bush enough and really would like those days to return, then join us as we unite and proclaim that we want a president who is competent and human...WE WANT CLINTON!!!

-From a Facebook group thing

They should take out that amendment that states that you can only serve for two terms....If a president's doing a good job, and just about everybody likes him, why shouldn't we keep him?
And yes, I do know that they put that amendment in the constitution only because FDR kept winning every presidential election; they were afraid he was going to become a tyrant.

Though I wish Clinton WERE still the president, I cannot agree with dropping the two-term limit. It's there for a good reason. Could you imagine having Bush for a THIRD term? I would expatriate!

You make a very good point.

Clinton CAN run again. The Constitution says that he can't run for 3 CONSECTUTIVE terms.

The total limit is 10 years.  Two full terms, plus two years.  You know, in case something bad happens to the president-elect before he or she is sworn-in.  But let's not give Karl Rove any ideas here!
:o

Some people have the misconception that a two-term president is eligable again after an intervening president has served a full term, but the 22nd amendment says:

"No person shall be elected to the office of the
President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of
President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to
which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the
office of the President more than once."

Clinton can't run again.  Two term limit, as Max has stated.

Of course, it depends on which Clinton you speak of :D

Good lord, are we that desperate now? Aren't we tired of all the same old bullsh*t yet? I like Clinton personally -- I'd have a beer with him, talk about women and social issues... I think his heart's in the right place (even when "wee willie" isn't). But he doesn't have nearly enough integrity or moral courage. None of the individuals people generally cite as leading candidates are worth half a flying damn. Hillary? Condi? Good Lord. Our republic is in a sorry state.

I think they need to nominate an unknown middle income citizen to be President.

It has been my thought for some time that the President should have to live on the median income
as it was when he was in office, excluding the top 10%.  You would see a rise in middle and working class incomes then!

I don't think it would make any difference.  It's not like they have to live on the salary anyway.  They have free room, board, transportation and living expenses.  The salary is next to meaningless anyway, especially if you have a lot of personal wealth, but even if you don't.

A lot of them probably give a lot of the salary to charity anyway -- does anybody know for sure?

And if he did, he would be assassinated within a week.  Is that really what you want Cat?

I have no idea what most Presidents did with their salaries.  They do get a pension for the rest of their lives though, upon leaving office.

Cheney isn't Dubya's toady, he's Dubya's ventriloquist.

Why does it seem like you're rooting for a new hopeful '08 Republican ticket every other week? First it was Mitt Romney, if I remember... then it just kept changing.

Romney, Romney, who's that?  Oh, wait, that's right, the Governor of Massachusetts.  I don't know much
about him since I live in Massachusetts and he always seems to be somewhere else.  Highly paid
no-show civil servant.

He's just using his position as governer as one of those... what do you call them again... oh yeah, a stepping stone to bigger and better things.

Yes, and yes.

But seriously, a Gallop poll announced today on CNN has any Democrate beating Bush 55% to 40% if the election were held today.  Too bad we don't have a national recall law.

It also appears, based on notes of a meeting, that Cheney told "Scooter" about Valerey Plame.  Impeachment anyone?  Or maybe he'll resign.
