People scoff at animal cruelty issues like they're silly, but it's silly to accept something just because you always have.

When my French teacher first explained to me what Foie Gras was, I was both shocked and intrigued. I mean, forcing a duck or a goose to develope cirrhosis of the liver so that you can later eat the liver sounds cruel and disgusting... But maybe it tastes really good, and if the bird will be killed for meat anyway... There's a question, certainly, as to the inhumanity involved. But are the birds in pain before they die? Is it cruel? I don't know. I work with a guy who raises birds on the side. I'll ask him.

I've never had foie gras, btw, but I intend to try it someday.

OK. Well that answered my question definitely.

I'm an avid meat eater, but I have my limits and foie gras is one.  There should be a limit to what is done to animals in
the name of self-indulgence and that is one of them.

also, you can refuse to eat at the establishments owned by Wolfgang Puck (California Pizza Kitchen, among others) because foie gras is served at his restaurants.

I've eaten veal, and I'm not that impressed with it. I'm aware of the cruelty, and I haven't eaten it for years.

No, for emotional reasons. How do they taste?

What do you mean by 'etc.'?

Good answer "for emotional reasons"  I like that.  I wouldn't either.  Those are all foods that people of other cultures think are normal to eat.  By etc. I meant other animals that might be acceptable to other cultures but not your own.  Because that is what the deal is with the Foie Gras I think.
