Subject: Tom DeLay wins Texas primary

Official Texas secretary of state results

But I thought the media said no one liked DeLay anymore and he would be "facing extremly tough republican primary opposition."  And now he wins a four way race with over 60% of the vote.  Ouch.

If he hadn't been in a scandal, there wouldn't have been three other people fighting for the office.  He would have not needed to raise $2 million to just win a primary.  He avoided almost all press, and stuck to public meetings and rallies where he wouldn't have to address it.

Now he will have to face those topics.  He'll have local and national press covering his campaign, and he won't be trying to win just the votes of his party (unless Texas is suddenly made up of 99% of republican voters too).

I won't say he'll definitely lose the seat, Marion Barry was convicted and still able to get re-elected, but I wouldn't consider the fact that he won 60% of his own parties members a huge endoresement. Honestly, if I were a Republican in that voting district, I'd be rather unhappy to have him win the primary, because he has a lot of negative baggage heading into the general election.

Good. I hope Tom DeLay can do what Jim Trafficante could not:
Win the election from prison!
:D

Even if DeLay does lose (which I highly doubt), the democrat (Nick Lampson) will no-doubt lose the seat to whatever republican takes him on in 2008.  The district is overwhelmingly republican.
