Subject: Will New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin win reelection?

Hell no!!

I hope he doesn't.

For as much as Bush and the federal government didn't do, Ray Nagin and the governor did just as little.  That and his "chocolate city" comments shouldn't lend well to reelection.

Of course they will reelect him.

After all, he is the one who convinced Oprah Winfrey that there were 200 murdered bodies in the Superdome.  ;D

I have no clue.  Part of me thinks they're gonna "keep it real" and reelect him.  The other part thinks they can't be that ignorant.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that they don't.....for their sake.

No, Nagin won't get re-elected. I don't see it happening, but never say never. Anyway, why would anyone wanna be mayor of N.O. now anyway? The next N.O. mayor will either be:

a. A well-meaning martyr and a glutton for punishment.
b. A vile and crooked carpetbagger.

Looks like they're gonna keep it real.  Prelim results showed Nagin with 38% of the vote and the closest guy with 19%.

That means a runoff.  This result would indicate that Nagin will have a strong lead.

Let's hope all the people who voted for the other candidates vote for Landrieu and not Nagin.

If Nagin get re-elected it won't be the worst thing in the world. Yes, Nagin effed-up the management of Katrina, but IMO, the feds were far more to blame. This executive branch is the most crooked, self-interested, sociopathic, and delusional cabinet in the history of the U.S.A. Furthermore, the Republicans in both chambers of congress have marched lockstep with the sick puppies in Bush's cabinet. Along with being the minority party, the Dems have done too little go after the idiotic and criminal behavior of the Bush Administration.
Like I say, Herbert freekin' Hoover did a far better job organizing relief and recovery after the 1927 Mississippi flood, and he did it without the benefit of cargo planes, computers, or even interstate highways!!!

You're right it won't be the worst thing in the world, but we can hope it doesn't happen again.

Oh, and stop trying to change the subject. :P ;)

What, did he buy a cat?

He named it
Kat (rina)
:D

The fact that the water temps in the central Gulf of Mexico reached 71 degrees F by the first week in April is a bad omen. I think Katrina and Rita might just a preview of coming attractions. A hurricane as powerful as Rita at its apex might form and hit New Orleans head on. Then the Big Easy is toast, finished, caput!

Can you imagine if a hurricane as powerful as Katrina took an anomolous path up the coast to the New York/New England area. This did happen in 1938 (the Eastern Seaboard Hurricane), and the effects were devestating. If ocean temperatures increase globally, temperate maritime climes will find themselves more hurricane friendly. With two, three, four times as many hurricanes and tropical storms forming, coastal regions from New Brunswick to Argentina could face Katrina-like disasters.

If you have the means, buy an underground cement bunker and tons of canned food!
:o :o :o

BTW, global warming isn't happening, and if it is, it isn't our fault!

Oh God no.  The Landrieu family (all democrat) is to Louisiana what the Kennedy family is to Massachusetts.  I'd rather Nagin win.

Seriously though, who the hell cares about some mayor's race?  Just because a hurricane hit the city doesn't make it news.

Actually, the hurricane hitting the city is what's making him news.  Nagin f*cked up before Katrina hit and then he made those comments about wanting N.O. to be a "chocolate city" when it's rebuilt........the man is a national figure if only for that, so yes his mayoral race is something of a news item.

People were interested in the NY mayoral race after 9/11.......it wasn't necessarily news, but people wanted to see if Guiliani would run again, who'd oppose him, who'd win.....things of that nature.

The "chocolate city" comment is exactly why Nagin will win in a city that's already 70% black. He now has the support of the black consticuency that he didn't have during his first term as mayor, especially in the poorer districts like the 9th Ward. His support is still kind of shaky, and reelection will depend on if and when the rest of New Orleans returns.
I hope he doesn't.

i gotta say i listened to the debate and nagin came off best. everybody else was all soundbites and single-issue rants and only nagin acted like he was actually thinking about the issues.
